Position Overview:
The Lab Director will lead and oversee all aspects of Excel Medical's laboratory operations to ensure the delivery of accurate, timely, and compliant testing services. This role reports to the VP of Operations and manages a team that includes the Lab Manager, Lab Technicians, Engineers, and Compliance personnel. The Lab Director will be responsible for maintaining CLIA standards, driving operational efficiency, and fostering a culture of quality, innovation, and collaboration across the lab team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and team oversight, leading and developing a high-performing lab team.
- Set team priorities aligned with organizational goals and regulatory standards to ensure accurate, consistent, and quality testing.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with CLIA and other relevant laboratory regulations, maintaining necessary documentation and audit readiness.
- Oversee internal quality control and assurance programs, including the validation of testing methodologies and lab equipment protocols.
- Manage laboratory workflows to ensure timely sample check-in, testing, and result reporting with a strong focus on operational efficiency and cross-functional coordination.
- Partner with engineering and technical staff to ensure lab equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and updated.
- Lead process improvement initiatives to optimize sample throughput, reduce errors, and scale operations effectively.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including turnaround times, sample processing accuracy, operational efficiency, and team performance metrics.
- Collaborate with leadership to inform strategic decisions using data insights and trend analysis.
- Partner with the VP of Operations and other operational leaders to align lab capabilities with the needs of medical providers and patients.
- Ensure seamless integration of lab processes with EMR systems, LIMS, and other operational tools.
- Act as the primary point of contact for lab-related initiatives, representing lab operations in cross-functional planning meetings.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Laboratory Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory leadership, with strong knowledge of clinical lab operations, regulatory requirements, and team management.
- Experience with LCMS, Pictus, Access, and other diagnostic equipment required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
- Experience with CLIA certification processes and quality management systems preferred.
