Job SummaryUnder direction of the Client Services Supervisor, the Data Processing Coordinator provides daily oversight of laboratory data processing services, ensuring efficient and high-quality specimen processing. Performs specimen processing and performs venipunctures in accordance with established procedures, while maintaining a professional, customer sensitive atmosphere.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
PATIENT SAFETY: Follows established hospital and departmental precautions and procedures in the performance of all job duties to ensure a safe work environment for patients and others to include as appropriate:
-Demonstrates appropriate hand hygiene
-Demonstrates use of two patient identifiers o Demonstrates effective communication "hand offs" between providers, shifts, departments, etc.
-Demonstrates use of proper precautions, including use of appropriate personal protective equipment
-Provides daily oversight of laboratory data processing services, ensuring efficient and high-quality specimen processing.
-Develops and maintains staff schedules and daily shift assignments in collaboration with Client Services Supervisor.
-Coordinates new and current employee training and maintains appropriate documentation.
-Coordinates new and current employee competency assessment and maintains appropriate documentation.
-Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment needed for data processing services.
-Participates in candidate interviews for data processing positions and provides feedback to Client Services Supervisor and/or Lab Operations Manager.
-Acts as a resource to laboratory and other departmental staff regarding data processing procedures and protocols.
-Works cooperatively with all hospital and laboratory staff, and external clients through verbal and written communications to resolve problems, exchange information, receive instructions, establish protocols, and process information concerning data processing services.
-Assists Client Services Supervisor with maintaining departmental procedures and training manual.
-Assists Client Services Supervisor and/or Lab Operations Manager with ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations as well as The Joint Commission and College of American Pathologists accreditation requirements.
-Provides coverage for Phlebotomy or Reference Lab department in absence of Phlebotomy or Reference Lab Coordinator.
-Periodically works shifts not regularly scheduled for, as determined by departmental needs.
-Acts as a role model in consistently observing all safety policies and procedures.
-Attends and participates in classes, meetings, committees, and continuing education, as appropriate, to maintain and enhance professional job knowledge and/or job skills.
-Answers telephone in a courteous manner and provides requested assistance. -Greets patients in a courteous manner.
-Obtains blood specimens from patients, in accordance with established procedures, while maintaining a professional, customer sensitive atmosphere.
-Verifies correct specimen and labeling requirements are met for all test orders.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Staff adheres to all C.A.R.E. Standards
- Must demonstrate annual competencies in tasks performed
EDUCATION:
- Minimum of high school diploma, or equivalent.
- Associates degree preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
- Phlebotomy Certification preferred
EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in specimen processing required
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in a hospital setting preferred
