Position: Food Bank Production and Operations Kitchen Assistanrt

Job Summary: We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Food Bank Production Kitchen. This role is integral to our operations, supporting bulk food processing, meal packaging, meal delivery, on-premise catering, dishwashing, and deep cleaning tasks. The ideal candidate will have experience in food production, a strong understanding of HACCP protocols, and a commitment to food safety and quality. You will help ensure efficient kitchen operations while adhering to high standards of cleanliness and safety to provide nutritious meals to those in need.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Bulk Food Processing (HACCP Protocols):

a. Process bulk food items, including washing, cutting, cooking, and portioning in compliance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) safety protocols.

b. Follow detailed instructions for food preparation while maintaining food quality, hygiene, and safety standards.

c. Monitor and record temperatures and other critical control points to ensure the safety and quality of food during processing.

d. Ensure proper storage of raw and prepared ingredients, adhering to all food safety regulations to minimize waste and prevent contamination.

2. Meal Packaging:

a. Assemble and package meals efficiently, ensuring portions are accurate and meals are sealed and labeled appropriately.

b. Follow guidelines to package meals for various distribution methods, including frozen, refrigerated, or ready-to-eat meals.

c. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring the packaging area is sanitized and ready for use.

3. Meal Delivery:

a. Support meal distribution logistics, assisting with the organization and preparation of meals for delivery or pickup.

b. Assist in loading and unloading meal delivery vehicles, ensuring meals are securely packed and delivered to recipients in a timely manner.

c. Collaborate with distribution teams to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of meals to local partner organizations or clients.

4. On-Premise Catering:

a. Assist with catering operations, including preparing and serving food for special events held at the food bank.

b. Ensure food quality, presentation, and proper handling during on-premise catering events.

c. Provide excellent customer service during events, ensuring meals are served promptly and in accordance with the food bank's standards.

5. Dishwashing:

a. Wash, sanitize, and store kitchen utensils, pots, pans, and equipment, following proper cleaning procedures.

b. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the dishwashing area to prevent cross-contamination and adhere to food safety standards.

c. Ensure all kitchen tools and equipment are kept in good condition and report any damage or malfunction.

6. Deep Cleaning:

a. Perform regular and deep cleaning of kitchen areas, including floors, walls, appliances, and food storage areas, to maintain a sanitary environment.

b. Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines for cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment.

c. Assist in periodic cleaning tasks, including grease traps, vents, and deep-cleaning equipment used in food preparation.

Qualifications:

• Experience in food production, food service, or commercial kitchen environments preferred.

• Knowledge of HACCP protocols, food safety standards, and sanitation practices.

• Ability to work in a fast-paced kitchen environment, managing multiple tasks while adhering to safety guidelines.

• Basic understanding of food storage, handling, and meal packaging procedures.

• Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

• Ability to lift and move boxes and food supplies up to 50 lbs.

• Ability to stand for long periods and work in various kitchen environments (e.g., cold storage, hot cooking areas).

• Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

• Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks as needed.

Working Conditions:

• Full-time position in a busy kitchen environment.

• Occasional lifting of heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).

• Ability to stand for extended periods and work in both hot and cold environments.

• Primarily weekdays. Shifts may vary based on food production and event schedules, with potential for weekends or evenings.
