JOB SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Food Service Manager and or Cook , the Kitchen Assistant will be responsible for assisting with distribution, service and clean-up of the meal program.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITESResponsibilities include but are not limited to: - Responsible for the cleaning (e.g., mopping and sweeping) of the food service areas, which includes equipment, kitchen, storage, and dining area.
- Responsible for the dishwashing, pot washing, and other cleaning duties as assigned.
- Assist with the distribution and set up of the meal service, which may include helping with food preparation when following all food safety procedures outlined by NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
- Assist in accepting food deliveries and proper storage of food deliveries following all NYC Department of health regulations.
- Participate with proper labeling and dating and rotation of stock.
- Meet with supervisors on a regular basis to discuss food service, procedures and best practices
- Work as a member of a team to establish and maintain high-level of care and respect for and communication with residents
- Work cooperatively with all staff and kitchen team members
- Share information about resident progress, needs, and problems with appropriate staff
- Attend training sessions and conferences as required for enhancement of job skills
- Implement emergency procedures, as necessary
- Must be able to work independently, when required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES - Previous experience in a commercial kitchen
- Ability to prepare nutritious and appealing meals to residents
- Ability to follow kitchen procedures and protocols
- Proficient written and oral communication skills
- Excellent organizational ability, time management and interpersonal skills
- Team focused and ability to work effectively with others as part of a team
- Desire or interest in working and supporting our senior residents
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CREDENTIALS - High school diploma or GED required. In Lieu of GED, must have at least 4 years of relevant industry cooking/kitchen experience.
- 6-month experience as a Kitchen Assistant or Dishwasher role.
- Proven cooking experience in a commercial kitchen(s) serving twenty persons or more.
- Active food handler's certification from the City of New York.
PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must be able to stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to climb stairs and lift at least 25lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
