Job Summary

The Junior Systems Administrator is responsible for supporting the College's server infrastructure by assisting in day-to-day maintenance, troubleshooting, and ongoing learning and development. The role involves a mixture of break/fix tasks, responding to service tickets, and participating in long-term projects such as server decommissioning and directory services cleanup. The Junior Systems Administrator will also assist in maintaining systems-related documentation and following standard operating procedures (SOPs). This is a junior position with the expectation that the Systems Team will provide training and guidance to help develop the skills of the individual. This is an on-site position.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Either a degree in a technical discipline with demonstrated understanding of the job requirements concepts, or a combination of relevant technical education with 2 years of experience.

• Basic understanding of server concepts, including Windows Server, Ubuntu, and Active Directory management.

• Experience in basic troubleshooting of IT infrastructure systems, including file sharing, permissions, and server configurations.

• Familiarity with scripting languages like Powershell and Bash/YAML, or a strong willingness to learn.

• Demonstrated ability to perform first-level triage for system issues and escalate appropriately.

• Year 1 Expectation of Growth

• Gain basic proficiency with Windows Server and Ubuntu server environments.

• Achieve A+ and ITIL certifications.

• Develop Powershell and Bash scripting skills for automation and troubleshooting tasks.

• Acquire a solid grasp of Active Directory services, including group policy and object management.

• Year 2:

• Attain Server+ certification.

• Master more advanced systems concepts, such as certificate management and patch deployment automation.

• Assist with larger infrastructure projects, such as DNS/DHCP cutovers, by performing audits and cleanup tasks.

Additional information:
