ROLE: The Junior Systems Administrator is responsible for maintaining, configuring, and ensuring the reliable operation of IT systems. The role involves supporting core infrastructure services, troubleshooting system issues, and assisting senior administrators with IT operations. This position will handle backup management and provide on-site support for deployments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
System Administration & Infrastructure Support: - Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments, including Active Directory (AD), Group Policy (GPO), DNS, and DHCP.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and security policies within Active Directory.
- Perform routine system monitoring, troubleshoot performance issues, and ensure high availability of IT services.
- Assist with server virtualization using VMware vSphere (Nutanix exposure is a plus).
- Support cloud-based services, including Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive).
- Provide basic IT network support, including NPS for RADIUS authentication.
Backup & Security Management: - Oversee backup operations, ensuring proper configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Use tools like Veeam, Cohesity, or NetBackup for backup and disaster recovery.
- Implement patch management, ensuring systems are updated and secured.
Troubleshooting & Support: - Diagnose and resolve system, network, and software issues.
- Provide GPO troubleshooting and create new policies as needed.
- Document system configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and resolutions.
- Assist in root cause analysis and develop preventive measures.
Deployment & Field Support: - Travel to remote sites for hardware and software deployments.
- Perform on-site support, reducing the need for senior admins to travel.
- Install and configure workstations, servers, and networking equipment.
Monitoring & Performance Optimization: - Utilize SolarWinds or similar monitoring tools to ensure system health.
- Analyze system logs and performance reports to identify issues proactively.
- Recommend system improvements and optimizations.
Collaboration & Professional Growth: - Work closely with senior administrators to develop skills and expertise.
- Participate in cross-training sessions for broader IT knowledge.
- Stay current with industry trends through training and professional development.
Experience & Skills: - 1-3 years of hands-on IT support or systems administration experience.
- Solid understanding of Windows Server administration, AD, GPO, DNS, and DHCP.
- Basic knowledge of VMware vSphere (Nutanix is a plus).
- Experience with backup solutions (Veeam, Cohesity, NetBackup, etc.).
- Basic Knowledge of Office 365 Administration (Teams, SharePoint Online, etc.)
- Understanding of IT security best practices and system hardening.
- Troubleshooting skills in Windows-based environments.
- File and Print Services: Setting up and managing print servers, configuring file shares, permissions.
- Storage Solutions: Familiarity with SAN, NAS, and RAID configurations.
- Ability to travel for site deployments and remote support.
- Basic IT Network: Network Policy Server (NPS) for RADIUS authentication.
- Backup Tools: Hands-on experience with solutions like Cohesity, NetBackup, Veeam, etc.
- Scripting: Strong scripting skills for server automation (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python).
Nice to Have: - Exposure to SolarWinds or other monitoring tools.
- Basic Linux administration skills.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud).
- Experience with scripting (PowerShell, Bash, or Python).
