Position Summary:
The Junior Controls Engineer will design, simulate, and test new products, redesign existing products, and perform research and testing on product concepts.

Essential Functions:

  • Operate the Mevion S250i and S250-FIT Superconducting Synchrocyclotron.
  • Tune system parameters and optimize beam performance.
  • Troubleshoot Mevion electro-mechanical controls systems and detectors for various functional groups in the organization.
  • Make significant technical contributions to Mevion's existing and future technologies across a broad spectrum of disciplines: electrical engineering, software, physics, and mechanical engineering.
  • Assist in the design of control systems including algorithm development.
  • Develop improved beam diagnostic and measurement tools.
  • Contribute to continuing engineering projects in close coordination with project heads, including system modeling, simulations, motion and instrument control, and experiments.
  • Create standard operating procedures, work instructions, and verification and validation protocols.

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or related discipline.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with controls systems and electronics troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work in a small team environment.
  • Mandarin fluency is desirable but not required.

Physical and Environmental Considerations:

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Required use of standard office equipment including laptop, phone, copier, etc.
  • Typical Office Environment.
  • Must be able to walk through the factory environment safely.
  • The employee will work in high magnetic fields in excess of 5 Gauss, with high voltages, and with radiation and radioactive materials.
  • May be involved in light rigging operations.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasionally needs to work 2nd shift to support deadlines and after hours testing.
  • Due to the work environment, people with pacemakers are not eligible for this position.
