Job Summary:
The Civil Engineering Technician (CAD Specialist) is responsible for assisting civil engineers in the design, drafting, and technical support of infrastructure projects. With a strong focus on CAD software, this role involves preparing detailed drawings, models, and technical specifications used in the construction and maintenance of roads, bridges, buildings, and other civil engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- CAD Design and Drafting:
- Create detailed technical drawings, blueprints, and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit).
- Assist engineers in translating design concepts into accurate, precise drawings for construction teams and project stakeholders.
- Develop plans for roadways, drainage systems, utilities, and structural elements.
- Site Layouts and Plans:
- Use CAD software to prepare site layouts, contour maps, and detailed infrastructure drawings.
- Produce grading plans, road cross-sections, and site-specific designs to ensure alignment with project specifications and environmental considerations.
- Modifications and Updates:
- Modify existing CAD drawings to reflect changes in design or construction requirements.
- Implement design revisions as needed based on feedback from engineers, project managers, or stakeholders.
- Track and update the status of CAD drawings to ensure they are up-to-date and compliant with project requirements.
- Collaboration and Technical Support:
- Collaborate with civil engineers and architects to understand design requirements and produce corresponding CAD drawings.
- Provide CAD technical support during project execution, ensuring that designs are implemented accurately.
- Work closely with construction teams, ensuring CAD designs are translated correctly into physical infrastructure.
- Quality Control and Compliance:
- Review CAD drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant building codes, standards, and regulations.
- Ensure that all designs are aligned with the latest industry practices and safety standards.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Maintain an organized system for storing and retrieving CAD drawings and related documentation.
- Prepare presentation materials, reports, and documentation for project meetings using CAD drawings to clearly communicate design ideas and project progress.
- Training and Development:
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in CAD software and civil engineering technologies.
- Assist in training junior technicians and new team members in the use of CAD tools and best practices.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or related field with a focus on CAD.
- Experience: Proven experience working with CAD software, particularly in civil engineering applications (AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation, etc.).
- Technical Skills:
- Expertise in CAD Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, with the ability to produce highly detailed and accurate technical drawings.
- Design Skills: Knowledge of civil engineering design principles, including grading, drainage, road design, and structural systems.
- 3D Modeling: Experience in creating 3D models and visualizations for civil engineering projects.
- Geospatial Knowledge: Ability to work with GIS data and integrate it into CAD drawings for accurate site planning and design.
