Jerry's Enterprises, Inc. is seeking our next Corporate Controller.

Jerry's Corporate Controller is responsible for creating, maintaining, reporting, analyzing, and interpreting financial information to support sound policy and decision making. This position serves as an integral leader in the Finance Department and manages Jerry's Enterprises Inc.'s accounting functions by working closely with appropriate staff and clients to accomplish duties and responsibilities.

This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits including medical, dental, vision and life insurance, short term disability and 401K with company match. Additional benefits include paid time off and store discounts. Salary range is $100,000 to $150,000, commensurate with experience.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

• Direct and manage the Company's fiscal records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles

• Ensure compliance with regulations related to tax filings

• Establish financial processes to improve administrative ease while maintaining effective internal controls

• Work closely with the VP Finance to carry out acquisition related duties

• Maintain relationships and serve as the key contact for outside service providers

• Assist the VP Finance on special projects as assigned

• Serve as subject matter expert for trends and regulations in the financial, tax, and grocery industries

• Recommend and develop policies, procedures and systems

• Partner with other internal stakeholders to ensure strong financial performance and decision making


• Oversee and ensure the collaboration and effectiveness of three departments: Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Real Estate/Property

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Strong critical thinking and data analysis skills

• Proven process improvement skills

• Excellent people skills - able to build results-oriented relationships

• Ability to multi-task with excellent time management and prioritization skills

• Sound knowledge of technical accounting principles and US GAAP

• MS Office Suite skills including Excel and Word

PREFERRED


• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field

• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics - Great Plains

• Experience with AP Automation as it relates to invoice processing and electronic data interchange

• Experience with Workday reporting/Adaptive Planning

• Public accounting experience

• CPA (Certified Public Accountant)

FULL JOB DESCRIPTION, POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage certain company activities, primarily financial in nature, to assist executive leadership in making sound decisions impacting the economic state of the Company

• Direct and manage the Company's fiscal records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles

• Ensure compliance with regulations as it relates to quarterly income tax filings, annual federal and state tax filings, sales tax filings, and other compliance duties as necessary

• Carry out day-to-day tasks related to the following
o Prepare financial statements related to certain business units, such as our real estate property division and other smaller business units
o Record and prepare journal entries for non-standard transactions, such as investment and hedging activities, as well as certain top-side corporate entries to ensure compliance with US GAAP

• Perform project management duties to best assist operations as it relates to sales or other business opportunities

• Establish financial processes to improve administrative ease while maintaining effective internal controls

• Work closely with the VP Finance to carry out acquisition related duties including but not limited to, reviewing and preparing certain components of an asset purchase agreement and carrying out the activities to ensure a smooth transition of ownership

• Maintain relationships and serve as the key contact for outside service providers in Audit, Tax, Banking (Financing and Treasury Management), and Insurance.

• Assist the VP Finance on special projects as assigned which may include estate planning, corporation status, and closed store analysis

• Serve as subject matter expert for trends and regulations in the financial, tax, and grocery industries

• Recommend and develop policies, procedures and systems, in conjunction with the various operating groups within the company, to meet company objectives

• Partner with other internal stakeholders including Operations, Human Resources, Payroll, etc. to ensure strong financial performance and decision making


• Oversee and ensure the collaboration and effectiveness of the following three departments
1. Accounting
o Supervise 4 general accounts (leadership, growth opportunities, and performance management)
o Responsible for preparing and reporting financial results for most business units in accordance with US GAAP on a quarterly basis
o Ensure the completeness and accuracy of financial data, including but not limited to cash reconciliations, accruals, and system to system data integrations
o Budgeting capital expenditures and business unit financial results annually
o Working with outside service providers and vendors to ensure adequate reporting of financial data
o Assist business unit store personnel with accurate completion of certain daily reporting tasks as it relates to sales and tenders
o Responsible for compliance with federal and state laws as it relates to sales tax and census reporting
o Identify opportunities for financial processing efficiencies using technology
2. Accounts Payable
o Supervise 1 Accounts Payable Manager and provide support to 6 staff (indirect reports)
o Provider leadership and supervision to the Accounts Payable Manager
o Responsible for reviewing invoices for accuracy and the appropriate approvals
o Building payables related data integrations to ensure optimization of payables processes
o Carry out internal control duties as it relates to reviewing merchandise invoice files for accuracy and ensure proper approvals on non-merchandise invoices
o Perform compliance related to duties as it relates to 1099 filings, energy benchmarking, and other compliance related duties as directed
3. Real Estate/ Property
o Supervise 1 Real Estate Manager
o Effective management of processes surrounding third party tenants, including but not limited to reviewing leases, addressing tenant concerns, and identifying and addressing property deficiencies

TRAVEL

• Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area travel may be expected

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position may require long hours and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.
