Jayhawk Debate Institute Lab Assistants

Position OverviewThe Jayhawk Debate Institute is a summer workshop to prepare high school students for policy debate on the 2024-25 National Speech and Debate Association resolution. Associate Lab Leaders will work as support instructors under the direction of Lab Leaders. The Assistant Lab leader will assist in providing students with instruction on the 2024-25 NSDA policy debate resolution. Responsibilities will include supervising student research, conducting skill development drills, judging practice and tournament debates, and providing direct instruction of students in an assigned cohort. This is a full-time, temporary staff position that begins June 22, 2025, and ends by July 11, 2025.

The Jayhawk Debate Institute will occur this year on the following dates:

Two-week camp runs June 22 - July 4, 2025.
Three-week camp runs June 22 - July 11, 2025.Job Description75% - Lab Assistant

• Assist lab leaders in developing arguments and conducting research.
• Assist students in their research assignments.
• Provide lectures to lab at request of lab leaders.

25% - Other

• Judge tournament debates.
• Judge practice debates.
• Must be able to listen to and follow directions.
• Must be able to take on a position of authority.

Required Qualifications

1. High School diploma or GED
2. Must have extensive policy debate experience at both the high school and college (NDT/CEDA) levels, as evidenced by application materials

Preferred Qualifications

1. Prior experience with coaching high school or college (NDT/CEDA) policy debate, as evidenced by application materials
2. Prior success in debate competition on the college (NDT/CEDA) level, as evidenced by application materials
3. Previous experience working at a debate camp, as evidenced by work history
4. Previous experience working with Jayhawk Debate Institute, as evidenced by work history
