Position Summary:


We are seeking a proactive, hands-on IT Systems Administrator to join our growing team at a dynamic Managed Service Provider (MSP) serving educational institutions and small to mid-sized public and private sector clients. This role will be responsible not only for maintaining and improving our clients' IT systems and infrastructure, but also for supervising a small team of IT support technicians and developing a structured summer internship program that supports workforce development in the IT field.


The ideal candidate is technically skilled, highly organized, and confident managing multiple environments. You'll play a key role in delivering consistent, secure, and scalable IT solutions across a diverse range of clients-from school districts and municipalities to growing businesses.


Key Responsibilities:

Systems Administration & Support

  • Deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux servers, virtual machines, and cloud-based environments (Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS).
  • Monitor and manage Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, file servers, and network configurations.
  • Implement backup, disaster recovery, and security solutions across client environments.
  • Support endpoint security, firewall configurations, and patch management in multi-client environments.
  • Assist with escalated support tickets and complex technical issues across the MSP's client base.
  • Maintain all hardware and software services supported by the IT Technical Services team.
  • Lead projects as assigned. Activities include developing project proposals, preparing detailed project plans, developing budget estimates, funding requests, preparing status reporting, and assisting other team members.
  • Hardware and software planning and selection, including upgrades and replacements.
  • Deploy on-premises (Physical and Virtual) or IaaS servers as required.
  • Ensure proper registration of devices and licensing compliance.
  • Maintain documentation covering systems that the IT Technical Services team supports, including but not limited to servers / system software, System Standards, Operations procedures.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise a small team of IT support technicians, providing direction, mentoring, and performance feedback to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Guide technicians in troubleshooting strategies, client communication, documentation standards, and professional development.
  • Manage technician scheduling, assist with ticket escalations, and ensure resolution timelines meet or exceed SLA commitments.
  • Promote collaboration and a growth-oriented team culture that reflects our values and client-first mindset.

Internship Program Oversight

  • Develop and manage a structured summer internship program that offers high school or college students hands-on IT experience in real-world environments.
  • Design internship curriculum and learning objectives that include basic technical tasks, exposure to client service, and mentoring opportunities.
  • Provide oversight, coaching, and feedback to interns, helping to build confidence, skills, and interest in the IT profession.
  • Coordinate with local schools, career development offices, or community partners to identify and recruit qualified candidates.

Project Management & Client Support

  • Plan and execute infrastructure upgrades, new client onboarding, and system migrations.
  • Coordinate with clients to assess IT needs and propose customized solutions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for all systems, configurations, and SOPs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 4+ years of experience in systems administration, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong working knowledge of:
  • Windows Server (2016/2019/2022), Active Directory, Group Policy
  • Microsoft 365 and Azure administration
  • Virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Networking concepts: VLANs, firewalls, VPN, TCP/IP
  • Familiarity with RMM tools and ticketing systems (ConnectWise).
  • Experience supporting educational institutions and small to mid-sized public and private sector clients is strongly preferred.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+/Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or VMware VCP are a plus.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with student information systems (e.g., PowerSchool), Google Admin Console, or other educational tech platforms.
  • SIS/LMS (e.g., PowerSchool, Canvas, Edgenuity,)
  • Scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash) for automation and task efficiency.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical users.
  • Passion for mentorship and developing junior talent through structured training or internship programs.
