Duties and Responsibilities ( Denotes Essential Functions)

Under the general supervision of the UH Hilo Director of Information Technology Services, this position will support both administrative, academic, and performing arts audio and video technologies at UH Hilo.
  1. Architect, plan, and commission the audio and video (A/V) systems for classrooms, conference rooms, and performing art rooms.
  2. Monitor, maintain, and repair the A/V systems in a proactive manner, assuring that the equipment will be fully operational for faculty, staff, students, and the community. Equipment includes, but are not limited to, Extron switches and matrixes, Sharp/NEC displays, Aver PTZ camera, Shure microphones, various conferencing technologies, Zoom Workspaces, Extron GVE, Aruba and Netgear network switches, etc.
  3. Lead in planning, developing, evaluating and recommending new A/V solutions to solve complex needs for in person or hybrid classrooms, meetings, and live performances.
  4. Assist with recommendations and procurement of new A/V related equipment and upgrades including assistance with University procurement contracts.
  5. Coordinate the project efforts and work tasks to completion collaborating with other IT and non-IT professional staff, student technicians, contractors, and suppliers.
  6. Document and train other A/V specialists and the Help Desk staff to provide front line support on the A/V equipment.
  7. Document and train faculty, staff, students, and the community on how to use various A/V systems across campus.
  8. Develop custom graphical user interfaces for touch panels with an emphasis on ease of use for our customers.
  9. Program DSPs to operate optimally for the purpose and application of the room.
  10. Keep current with emerging A/V technologies to drive the campus forward with innovative designs and functionality
  11. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information & Computer Sciences (ICS) and 3 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for trouble shooting computer hardware, software, network, and audio/visual in administration, academic & performing arts, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower pay band in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of instructional technology as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with instructional technology.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. For supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  8. Functional knowledge of audio and video hardware and software including the ability to install/uninstall/configure both hardware and software
  9. Demonstrated ability to recognize problem, identify possible causes and resolve routine problems.
  10. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  11. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
  12. Experience installing, monitoring, and maintaining classroom audio and video equipment
  13. Experience training users in proper use of classroom audio and video equipment.
  14. Ability to work outside of normally scheduled work hours, including day, night, weekend and/or holidays hours as directed
  15. Possession of a valid driver's license
Desirable Qualifications
  1. Experience in programming Extron control touch panels and digital signal processors or othermanufacturer equipment (Biamp,Crestron, QSys, etc.).
  2. Configuration of network switches (Aruba, Netgear, etc.)
  3. Considerable knowledge of the UH Hilo environment, processes, policies and procedures.
  4. Installation, service, field engineering experience.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of audio and video over IP.
  6. AVIXA CTS, CTS-I, CTS-D
