Responsibilities What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as a primary technical specialist and focal point for the planning and implementation of customer support services covering all the organization of IT equipment, software, systems, interfaces, and networks. Typical assignments include: Performing a variety of highly technical assignments relevant to the implementation of state-of-the-art customer support requirements. Applying a knowledge of current applications, operating systems, protocols, and equipment to provide assistance to customers. Diagnosing and resolving problems in response to customer-related incidents; researching, evaluating, and providing feedback on problematic trends and patterns in customer support requirements. Developing and maintaining problem tracking and resolution databases. Installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining customer hardware and software. This announcement is for a position as a CORE (Cadre of On-Call Response/Recovery Employee). CORE employees are full-time employees hired to directly support the response and recovery efforts related to disasters. Employees are hired under the Robert T. Stafford Act and are excluded from the provisions of title 5, United States Code, governing jobs in the competitive service. They can be hired under a streamlined process instead of a competitive process. After three years of continuous service, Stafford Act employees may be granted competitive eligibility to apply for permanent full-time positions at FEMA. This position will be hired into a temporary 4-year, excepted service appointment. Appointments may be renewed based on workload, funding, and supervisory approval. Experience may be obtained in the Federal or Private Sector and must demonstrate all of the following: Providing technical guidance on IT related issues; Performing technical work related to network set up and maintenance; and Managing or monitoring the performance of computer servers and networks.
