The IT Network Engineer at MacLean-Fogg is responsible for the planning, design, and maintenance of the organization's network infrastructure. This role involves managing and supporting network hardware, software, and connectivity to ensure stable, secure, and scalable network performance. The IT Network Engineer will work closely with end-users, IT team members, and vendors to resolve issues, improve network functionality, and ensure the security of the organization's systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Configure, install, and maintain network hardware and software components, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless systems.
  • Perform regular maintenance on network devices and servers to ensure optimal performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Implement network changes and upgrades as necessary to support evolving business needs and enhance system capabilities.
  • Monitor network performance, identifying and addressing connectivity issues, bandwidth concerns, and potential disruptions.
  • Troubleshoot network-related issues, performing root-cause analysis to resolve connectivity problems and optimize network operations.
  • Collaborate with IT team members to provide timely resolution of network incidents, ensuring minimal impact on business operations.
  • Support security protocols across network systems, ensuring data protection through firewalls, encryption, access controls, and other measures.
  • Identify and mitigate network vulnerabilities, implementing best practices for network security to prevent unauthorized access or data breaches.
  • Regularly assess security posture, recommending and implementing improvements to safeguard network infrastructure.
  • Work with network equipment vendors to resolve hardware and software issues, ensuring efficient service and optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with end-users to troubleshoot and resolve network issues, providing a positive user experience and supporting effective system use.
  • Communicate network-related updates and changes to end-users and IT team members to maintain alignment and minimize disruptions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for network configurations, troubleshooting steps, and standard operating procedures.
  • Complete all necessary documentation fully and accurately, ensuring records are up-to-date and accessible for future reference.
  • Adhere to 5S standards, promoting a clean and organized workspace, and comply with Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies and procedures.
  • Stay current with advancements in network technology and industry best practices, implementing improvements to enhance network performance and security.
  • Contribute to infrastructure improvement projects, supporting initiatives that drive system reliability and scalability.
  • Engage in ongoing training and professional development to refine technical skills and adapt to emerging network solutions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, supporting the Network Operations team and contributing to overall IT department goals.
Skills/Competencies
  • Strong technical skills in network configuration, including knowledge of LAN/WAN, firewalls, routers, switches, VPNs, and wireless technologies.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting network issues, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving connectivity problems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate technical information clearly to non-technical users.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration with IT colleagues, end-users, and vendors to resolve issues and optimize network functionality.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to assess complex network issues, conduct root-cause analysis, and implement solutions that support optimal network performance.
  • High attention to detail and ability to maintain a methodical approach to network management and issue resolution.
  • Knowledge of network infrastructure components, including firewalls, switches, routers, and access points.
  • Familiarity with network security principles, including encryption, intrusion detection/prevention, and access control.
Qualifications

Required
  • Education: Bachelor's
  • Experience: Minimum of 4 years of experience in network engineering or a related IT role, demonstrating proficiency in network configuration, security, and troubleshooting. Experience working with network infrastructure in a business environment, ensuring reliable and secure network performance.
Preferred
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or similar are desirable, showcasing advanced knowledge in network design and management.
