Job Purpose:

The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) is currently seeking a IT Manager based in its Ann Arbor, Michigan headquarters. NCMS is the nation's leading technology consortium that accelerates the development and adoption of cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities to drive American competitiveness.

Reporting to the Chief Digitalization Officer, you'll be an integral part of a growing, dynamic IT team, working hands-on to support our organization's goals.


This role involves overseeing the IT Department, ensuring that systems, networks, and technology services align with NCMS' goals and operational needs.


This is a hybrid role and will have 3 days at the office in Ann Arbor, Michigan and 2 remote days.


Essential Functions:

  • Effectively lead the IT Department, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Manage and mentor IT staff, including goal setting, career development, and performance.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify and address technology needs.
  • Oversee IT projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet NCMS standards and requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the IT department and other business units, executive management, and external partners. Communicate IT strategies and initiatives effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Manage and track the IT Department's annual budget.
  • Ensure the delivery of quality technology and support through effective needs assessment and system design, selection and implementation processes; interact with internal and external customers to define needs, evaluate operations and implement improvements and enhancements.
  • Oversee the development, design, implementation and conversion to new applications, environments and software programs; oversee network, phone, security, business system and other technology upgrades. Collaborate with and direct staff regarding security best practices.
  • Administer or oversee the administration of IT services by monitoring systems performance
  • Create processes and standards for selection, implementation, and support of systems.
  • Mentor employees in business process, technology and associated skill sets.
  • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies; apply this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to senior management.
  • Responsible for continual improvement projects and review as they apply to the department.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong background in IT management and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.


Requirements:

  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Must hold or be eligible to obtain government security clearance.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 unless legally exempt.
  • You must have a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 7-10 years prior IT Management experience.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • Ability to adapt to the needs of the organization and employees
  • Outstanding verbal and written skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of IT processes and best practices.
  • Customer service focus with both external and internal customers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong, hands-on knowledge of cloud platforms like Azure and AWS, preferred knowledge of government cloud systems such as Azure's GCC High.
