IT Field Technician
Our client is seeking a resourceful and hands-on IT Field Technician to join their highly collaborative IT team for a full-time, contract opportunity this summer. As an IT Field Technician, you'll be supporting a smooth tech transition for the new school year by preparing classroom devices, handling help desk tickets, and ensuring instructional technology across campuses is ready for action.
This is a dynamic, people-facing role where you'll split time between onsite visits to schools and remote/office-based helpdesk support. It's a great fit for someone who enjoys variety, travel between locations, learning new systems, and providing exceptional service to educators and staff.
What You'll Be Doing as an IT Field Technician: -
Prepare classroom technology for the school year: test and troubleshoot smartboards, Chromebooks, audio systems, projectors, and other AV tools.
-
Use Freshdesk to manage, respond to, and resolve help desk tickets-ticket volume will spike as staff return in August, so early prep is essential.
-
Support Chromebook inventory and inspection ( 6,000 units), logging and coordinating any necessary repairs.
-
Collaborate with team members daily to tackle tech requests, from device setup to front-of-classroom support.
-
Assist with deploying laptops and onboarding technology for new hires.
-
Rotate across multiple sites, with 60% of your time onsite in schools and 40% at the office or working remotely.
Technical Scope & Systems You'll Touch: As a Field Technician, you'll gain exposure to a range of technologies with opportunities for hands-on experience and future career growth:
-
Google Workspace Administration - managing account changes and access across the organization.
-
Windows Server Administration - including DHCP, DNS, RADIUS, Group Policy, Print, and Network Policy Server management.
-
Utilize Windows Deployment Tools such as WDS and Intune.
-
Manage/support Chromebooks, tablets, iPads, and Mac and Windows laptops.
-
Maintain STEM desktop labs and troubleshoot AV tools like interactive flat panel boards and projectors.
-
Troubleshoot VoIP phone systems and provide support for both wired and wireless networks (including switch gear, cabling, and WAP controllers).
-
Use Excel and Google Sheets to support inventory tracking; familiarity with PivotTables, LOOKUPs, and data filtering a plus.
What You Bring: -
1-2 years of IT support experience (bonus points if in an educational environment).
-
Strong technical troubleshooting skills across hardware, software, and basic networking.
-
Friendly, responsive, and customer-focused-you're the face of tech support in the field.
-
Ability to lift 50 lbs and travel to school campuses.
-
Comfortable working both independently and with a team.
-
Certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or Google IT Support Professional are a bonus, but not required.
-
Familiarity with MacOS, Windows, and ChromeOS.
Why You'll Love This Role: -
40-hour workweeks - with no overtime expected.
-
Work with a down-to-earth team that values clarity, support, and teamwork.
-
Be part of a mission-driven organization where your contributions directly impact educators and students.
-
Enjoy variety in your day-supporting different schools, interacting with staff, and solving a range of tech issues.
-
Mileage reimbursement for travel between sites.
-
Casual dress code in the field, business casual in the office.
