Application Operations Manager

Location: Annapolis Junction, MD (Baltimore-DC Metro Area)


On behalf of our client, a fast-growing omni-channel retail brand, we are seeking a hands-on, technically capable Application Operations Manager to take ownership of business-critical systems and build scalable solutions that improve operational reliability and empower cross-functional teams.


This role sits at the intersection of business systems, data operations, and integration management. You will play a critical role in ensuring that platforms like ERP, WMS, EDI, and e-commerce systems run smoothly, exchange data reliably, and deliver insights that support decision-making across the company. Role Overview

As Application Operations Manager, you will own and support a portfolio of enterprise applications that drive order fulfillment, inventory management, finance, and e-commerce. You will be responsible for system configuration, real-time monitoring, exception management, and performance optimization - while also building

automations, custom scripts, and dashboards that reduce manual work and enhance operational efficiency.


Your day-to-day work will directly impact the reliability and scalability of our business systems. You'll work closely with IT, data & analytics, finance, and warehouse teams to identify issues, implement improvements, and create repeatable, efficient workflows. You'll write Python, SQL, and JavaScript code to support integrations, dashboards, and business logic - not just oversee or manage others who do.

Key Responsibilities


Application Ownership & Day-to-Day Operations


• Manage daily operations and performance of ERP (NetSuite, SouthWare), WMS, EDI, and e-commerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, Salesforce Commerce Cloud)


• Monitor system health, logs, alerts, and integrations to proactively identify and resolve issues


• Configure and tune business platforms based on evolving operational needs


• Own exception management and technical issue resolution for platform-based workflows


Technical Execution and Automation


• Write and maintain scripts in Python, SQL, and JavaScript to support automations, integrations, and internal tools


• Build lightweight automations and scheduled tasks to reduce manual processes and improve data accuracy


• Troubleshoot and improve existing API workflows and file-based integrations


• Document and maintain a knowledge base of system workflows, scripts, and custom configurations


Reporting and Insight Delivery


• Create and maintain operational dashboards and reports using Tableau or scripted outputs


• Support ad hoc data requests and reporting needs from business and technical stakeholders


• Use data to identify inefficiencies, recommend system improvements, and monitor the impact of changes


• Collaborate with the Data & Analytics team to ensure clean, reliable hand-offs between application data and reporting layers


Cross-Functional Collaboration and Support


• Serve as a partner to teams in operations, finance, e-commerce, and IT


• Provide Level 2/3 support to staff for application-related issues and questions


• Train internal users on systems functionality and technical best practices


• Act as an advocate for end users by translating real-world challenges into scalable technical solutions


Required Experience & Skills


• 5+ years of experience managing business applications and integrations in a production environment


• Strong hands-on experience with Python, SQL, and JavaScript


• Deep understanding of enterprise system workflows - especially ERP, WMS, and e-commerce platforms


• Demonstrated ability to build automations and technical solutions to streamline operations


• Strong troubleshooting instincts and attention to detail - especially around integration failures and exception handling


• Familiarity with modern data platforms such as Snowflake, and reporting tools such as Tableau


• Ability to translate between technical complexity and business needs, and to prioritize work based on operational impact


Preferred Experience


• Experience with e-commerce tools such as Shopify or Salesforce Commerce Cloud


• Familiarity with EDI workflows and document types (e.g., 810, 852, 856)


• Previous experience supporting or working within retail, wholesale, fashion, or omni-channel businesses


• Exposure to Agile development or iterative improvement practices

Compensation & Location


Salary: Commensurate with experience, aligned with mid- to senior-level technical roles


Location: On-site in Annapolis Junction, MD (within commuting range of DC/Baltimore metro)


Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:30 PM with limited remote flexibility


Relocation: Preference given to local candidates; relocation may be considered

for exceptional fit only
