Job Title: IP Patent Prosecution Associate Attorney
Job Overview:
A distinguished law firm based in Washington, DC is seeking a Patent Strategy & Innovation Associate with a background in intellectual property law. The role focuses on navigating the full life cycle of patent development and management, supporting clients across diverse technical domains. This opportunity offers hands-on involvement in patent drafting, prosecution, and strategic advisory services within a collaborative legal environment.
Duties:
Draft and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications
Provide analysis and opinions on patentability, freedom to operate, and patent clearance
Assist with intellectual property licensing matters
Support due diligence reviews in connection with M&A and investment transactions
Collaborate with cross-functional legal and technical teams to develop and manage IP portfolios
Conduct legal research and prepare client-ready communications
Support enforcement and defense strategies for patent portfolios
Requirements:
Minimum of 2 years of experience in patent law, with a focus on preparation and prosecution
Strong grasp of technical subject matter, especially in engineering or computer-related fields
Admission to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
Ability to communicate complex legal and technical concepts clearly and effectively
Demonstrated capability to work both independently and in collaborative settings
Education:
J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school
Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
