TEKsystems is seeking experienced IP and Transport Network Engineers for a Long Term Opportunity
This role can sit remotely in the US. Candidates MUST be eligible to work in the US for any employer WITHOUT sponsorship.
This is a W2 contract for 6-12 months with a very strong possibility of long term extension or full time conversion.
MUST be committed to working Alaskan core business hours - Monday - Friday 8-5pm AKST

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is expected to provide engineering design and implementation services necessary to support the company's IP/MPLS core network, carrier Ethernet transport systems, cellular data core systems, and/or video transmission services. Will be required to provide technical leadership and escalation support for various operations and engineering groups as well as technical training and mentorship to team members. Requires excellent communication skills to facilitate collaboration with various internal departments to ensure the reliable operation and growth of a converged and scalable carrier network.
This is a expert level position and requires the ability to perform highly complex and diverse duties under deadlines and operating constraints. Design, plan, analyze, and implement networks delivering services across multiple company business departments. Must be able to make independent engineering decisions and provide
technical direction for resolution. Responsible for review and provide final engineering design specifications and service requirements. Receives clear direction on assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions, supervisory assistance on unusual problems. Capable of performing project engineer on large projects with the ability of mentoring, coordinating, directing, assisting, and providing technical direction to junior engineers and technicians. Comprehensive understanding of standard engineering concepts such as high availability, redundancy, reliability and testing, security, and standards. Superior time management skills to manage multiple complex projects smoothly and professionally on time and on budget.
DUTIES PERFORMED AT ALL LEVELS:
Essential Duties of All Levels in the Position:
Ensures the integrity of high availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance in design, implementation, and support.
Able to understand standard engineering concepts of availability, efficiency, redundancy, scalability, and security.
Able to Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of the current network and/or systems
facilities.
Maximizes performance using network monitoring tools, troubleshooting network and/or system outages, scheduling updates, and collaborating with architects on optimization.
Maintains professional skillset by participating in educational opportunities, technical organizations, reading professional publications, and personal use of technology.
Provides detailed reports on network operational status, and milestones related to project completion.
Capable of remote site support for off-site personnel and customers.
Coordinates with project management and engineering teams on a regular basis. Supports and manages escalation events. Develops and updates documentation and support materials.
Mentors' junior engineers and technicians.
Job Scope:
40% Defines, designs, and implements complex projects utilizing standard telco engineering principles and concepts, efficiency, redundancy, availability, security, and scalability, responsible for new systems' planning and implementation.
20% Defines KPIs for operational management, provides and updates operational documentation, training, and diagrams.
20% Works with management and engineering staff to determine future architecture and planning requirements and assures that needs are met by proposed future designs and long-term plans. Project coordination to include facilitating customer sales via technical support and engineering efforts.
10% Mentors and supports junior engineers and technicians.
10% Supports and manages escalations to resolution.
Job Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
High-level understanding of standard engineering concepts such as high availability, redundancy, reliability, scalability, and security.
Strong ability to create and edit network drawings using Microsoft Visio application.
Advanced experience with the configuration of Alcatel/Nokia, Cisco, Brocade, or Juniper routers and switches.
Advanced understanding of routing protocols such as BGP, MPLS, ISIS, OSPF, EIGRP, etc
Strong understanding of project management concepts.
Strong understanding of RSVP, LDP, and PIM.
Strong understanding of data center network design.
Strong understanding of common transport technologies such as Ethernet, SONET, TDM, Fiber, Microwave, Satellite, WiFi, cellular, etc.
Extensive experience with layer-2 Ethernet technologies such as VLANs, STP, LACP, MC-LAG, etc.
Strong analytic, strategic, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
Self-directed and motivated, highly focused on the company and departmental goals.
Creative and innovative problem solver.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively together towards a common goal.

Certifications:
Industry specific certifications relevant to the discipline are highly valued and may contribute toward education requirements.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis
High School diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Technologies, Electrical Engineering, or relevant field.
Minimum of six (6) years' experience in progressive engineering in information technology, design and implementation using engineering principles, complex project management within telecommunications including technology insertion, or related background.
Preferred:
Experience within the telecommunications industry.
Other telecom industry or job specific certifications.

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
