Job Description

JOB TITLE: MIDDLE SCHOOL HEAD FOOTBALL COACH
DEPARTMENT: ATHLETICS
CLASSIFICATION: EXTRA-CURRICULAR

SALARY: $4,010 for season


GENERAL DUTIES:
Support the School District athletic objective, policy of interscholastic athletics, and School District Athletic Code. The District believes that extra-curricular activities are an integral part of school life. All students, regardless of their ability, should take part if possible to be able to grow physically, intellectually, and socially through participation. Coaches organize and conduct the athletic programs to meet the needs of the school district and their participants.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibilities and essential functions satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of the sport, coaching techniques, and student supervision
  • Must have current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain
  • Must have current Concussion Management and other trainings required by the OSAA or ability to complete
  • Successfully pass fingerprint and background check

SKILLS:
  • Ability to work harmoniously with others and collaborate solutions to concerns
  • Ability and willingness to effectively communicate in verbal and written modes with students/athletics, parents, coaches, staff, and administration
  • Ability and willingness to perform coaching responsibilities in accordance with school and District procedures and policies
  • Ability to maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff, or District patrons
  • Basic use of computer and Internet based applications, including but not limited to email and systems applications
  • Physical ability to perform required work
  • Be able to work independently and without close supervision
  • Work well with and enjoy the company of students

RESPONSIBILITIES and ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Cultivate and model a respectful working and learning environment
  2. Annually pass required online trainings by the District's assigned due-date
  3. Follow site and/or District protocol for reporting absences
  4. Utilize the District's electronic systems and applications related to the job
  5. Performs delegated duties assigned by the head coach
  6. Be knowledgeable of and implement the planned system and style of play as established by the head coach
  7. Enforce all athletic regulations and take initiative in making proposals for improvement in the program through the head coach to the athletic director and principal
  8. Attend meetings and professional developments organized and conducted by the high school head coach, athletic director, or principal
  9. Demonstrate proper active supervision during all scheduled activities for students/athletes including, but not limited to, game, practice, locker room and transportation
  10. Maintain a thorough knowledge of skill development, training techniques, fundamentals, game strategy, and the rules of the sport
  11. Report participant injuries following District procedures
  12. Be responsible for the care, distribution, and collection of District equipment and supplies
  13. Communicate with athletes in a manner that models respect; Refrain from using profanity or derogatory language at participants, officials, parents or others associated with the program
  14. Be a positive role model for athletes and fans and to promote good sportsmanship
  15. Cultivate a program culture that demands respect between participants
  16. Meet with players and parents prior to or at the beginning of the season to cover all participation expectations
  17. Commit to continued professional development and improvement of the knowledge of skill development, training techniques, fundamentals, game strategy and the rules of the sport
  18. Collaborate with the head coach and athletic director to arrange for transportation and finances for contests
  19. Be responsible for the care, distribution and collection of District equipment and supplies
  20. Report participant injuries following District procedures
  21. Develop and maintain a positive rapport with students/athletes, parents, coaches throughout the program, staff and administration
  22. Ensure that athletes have turned in all required paperwork before allowing them to participate in practices
  23. Promote interest in and garner enthusiasm for the athletic program to students, parents, and the community
  24. Teach fundamentals and skills of the sport
  25. Enforce all training rules and school regulations pertaining to athletes
  26. Assume responsibility for the facilities they use so as to maintain them
  27. Make recommendations to the head coach about the purchase of athletic equipment pertaining to their sport
  28. Assist in the development and maintenance of an accurate inventory of uniforms and equipment for their sport
  29. Take extreme care not to jeopardize the health and safety of athletes
  30. Work effectively under the leadership of the head coach, athletic director and school administrator
  31. Take part in the year-end athletic banquet
  32. Effectively communicate rules, procedures, and fundamentals of the sport to the players
  33. Motivate athletes to prepare effectively and efficiently for athletic contests
  34. Understand the strengths and weaknesses of the players
  35. Attend all meetings as required by the athletic director, administration or league leadership
  36. Report any behavior that endangers the physical, emotional or mental safety of anyone in the program to the Head Coach, Athletic Director and Principal within 24 hours
  37. Perform other reasonable duties that from time to time may be assigned to meet the usual and unusual demands placed on the organization
