Position Overview:

The City Physician provides comprehensive medical services for current and prospective City of Delano employees. This contracted position involves conducting various medical examinations, administering drug screenings, performing fitness-for-duty evaluations, completing DMV medical certifications, treating job-related injuries, providing COVID-19 testing, and administering vaccines. The City Physician also serves as a medical/legal witness and resource for City management.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Must be board certified
  • Licensure: Valid medical license to practice in the state of California.
  • Experience: Must have experience in relevant field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in conducting medical examinations and interpreting results.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct pre-employment physical examinations for various employee groups.
  • Perform functional capacity evaluations/assessments (including ADA assessments).
  • Complete Department of Motor Vehicle physicals and medical certifications
  • Conduct fitness-for-duty evaluations and disability retirement evaluations.
  • Administer and interpret drug screening tests (including DOT-regulated tests).
  • Treat job-related injuries and provide COVID-19 testing and vaccines.
  • Serve as a medical/legal witness and resource for City management.
