Interim Controller

About the Organization:
Our client, a mission-driven non-profit healthcare organization, is undergoing a significant transition and is seeking an experienced Interim Controller to help navigate this period of change. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in dynamic environments, has a passion for public service, and can provide both strategic and hands-on financial leadership.

Key Interim Controller Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for ensuring financial stability during this transition, with an initial focus on closing the books and managing monthly financial reporting. Over time, responsibilities will expand to include budgeting, financial system integration, and process alignment.

  1. Monthly Financial Close & Reporting (40%)

    • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.

    • Work closely with the FP&A Director and accounting team to review financials.

    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

  2. Financial System Integration (25%)

    • Support the integration of Multiview into NetSuite, ensuring a seamless transition.

    • Assist in the setup of the Chart of Accounts (COA) and reporting structures.

    • Align policies and procedures between merging entities.

  3. Budgeting & Forecasting (20%)

    • Lead the development of financial budgets and rolling forecasts.

    • Collaborate with department heads to ensure alignment with organizational goals.

    • Provide strategic financial insights to guide decision-making.

  4. Process Improvement & Team Management (15%)

    • Oversee a growing team, managing 4+ direct reports and scaling to 5-10.

    • Train and mentor accounting staff on best practices and system enhancements.

    • Identify operational inefficiencies, recommend solutions, and drive implementation.

Interim Controller Qualifications & Experience:
Must-Have:

  • Strong experience in full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.

  • Expertise in financial system integrations, particularly Multiview and/or NetSuite.

  • Background in federally qualified health center (FQHC) accounting or governmental fund accounting.

  • Ability to work independently and lead a team through transition and change.

  • Strong Excel proficiency, including the ability to work within existing complex workbooks.

Nice-to-Have:

  • CPA and/or public accounting experience.

  • Experience with merger and integration activities, including policy and procedure alignment.

  • Familiarity with UDS (Uniform Data System) reporting.
