Qualification

Tertiary qualification in Instrumentation. Trade certificate in Instrumentation (red seal) is mandatory.

  • N6/S4 in Instrumentation or Digital Electronics or Electrical engineering
Experience:

Previous experience on instrumentation is essential (min 3 years), preferably in an FMCG environment.

Position Summary

As an Instrumentation Technician, you will be working to drive improvements in the performance of machinery and assets, reporting to the Automation Engineer on a daily basis.

The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing TPM processes, making it an exciting time to be involved. It is expected that you will play a key part in this.

You will be responsible for the calibration and maintenance of instrumentation onsite to ensure 100% compliance with food safety standards. Attending to instrumentation faults and breakdowns in the factory, as well as calibration of all equipment and instrumentation (Metal detectors/X-ray/etc.), are some of the main duties.

What will make you successful
  • Previous experience on instrumentation is essential (min 3 years)
  • Tertiary qualification in Instrumentation. Trade certificate in Instrumentation (red seal) is mandatory.
  • N6/S4 in Instrumentation or Digital Electronics or Electrical engineering
  • Ability to read engineering drawings
  • Effective communication with a range of stakeholders
  • A sense of urgency while never compromising safety or product quality
  • Experience with hazardous area ratings and installations
  • Knowledge of control systems, data interfaces, and communication protocols
  • Familiarity with process control through PLC systems. Experience with Allen Bradley PLC is an added benefit.
  • Leadership skills, including facilitation, team meeting leadership, and coaching/mentoring production staff on instrumentation equipment
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Long Description
  • Be proactive in preventing breakdowns during patrols and show initiative to continuously improve equipment performance
  • Carry out planned maintenance on the plant
  • Install, service, repair, and maintain existing and new equipment
  • Attend to instrumentation faults and breakdowns in the factory
  • Calibrate all CCP equipment and instrumentation (Metal detectors/X-ray/etc.)
  • Repair and maintain all aspects of date coding equipment
  • Faultfinding and programming on instrumentation equipment, PLCs, and VSDs
  • Ensure machine availability to meet production targets
