Position Summary:
The Instrumentation Field Engineer supports field construction activities by providing technical oversight and guidance to field supervision. This role ensures instrumentation systems are installed per project design, code requirements, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct inspections and generate supporting documentation for instrumentation installations.
- Assist field supervision with planning labor, tools, and material requirements.
- Develop and maintain short- and long-range execution schedules.
- Perform material takeoffs from issued-for-construction (IFC) drawings.
- Track quantities and support project controls with reporting.
- Prepare field material requisitions; monitor purchase orders and deliveries.
- Resolve design issues in collaboration with engineering and vendors.
- Ensure installations comply with current drawings, codes, and standards.
- Interface with subcontractors delivering technical services.
- Verify and complete inspection/test documentation.
- Participate in final system walk-downs, punch list closure, and as-built reviews.
- Monitor actual performance against the project schedule and cost plans.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 3-5 years of field experience OR 6-9 years of equivalent instrumentation experience without a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the industrial field construction (direct hire, heavy industrial).
- Industry background in LNG, oil, gas, petrochemical, or power plant projects.
- Strong coordination and leadership in a team environment.
- Capable of solving technical problems under pressure.
- Proficient with MS Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with industry standards, specifications, and vendor documentation.
- Experience with technical subcontractor coordination.
- Understanding of EPC construction workflows and procedures.
- Knowledge of software tools such as Navisworks, Unifier, Setroute, Aconex, DSCS, Agile, and others.
- Prior LNG project experience on the U.S. Gulf Coast preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Extensive walking in hot, humid construction environments.
- Must climb ladders/scaffolds and work on elevated or uneven surfaces.
- Occasional work in confined spaces.
- Required to use PPE, including harnesses, lift buckets, and life vests.
- Must be physically able to enter and exit project zones as needed.
