POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Education at Alma College, Alma, Michigan invites applications for a fixed term faculty appointment in English Language Arts Education beginning August 2025. This is a one-year, full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position beginning August 2025. The standard teaching load for this position is six units throughout the academic year and may include teaching in different modalities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Master's degree with emphasis in English Language Arts Education or a Master's degree in English with at least 18 credits in English Language Arts Education
- A minimum of 3 years of P-12 teaching experience
- Ability to demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- A terminal degree in English Language Arts Education
- Experience supervising student teachers
- Familiarity with curriculum development and assessment in English Language Arts Education
- Commitment to inclusion in teaching practices
- Engagement in professional development and continuous improvement initiatives
- Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations
- The department seeks a candidate who will be able to teach courses that include some of the following: PK-6 Language Arts Methods, Secondary Language Arts Methods, Teaching Reading in Middle and High School, PK-6 Literacy courses, Foundations of Education, and supervision of clinical experiences.
