Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information Technology, Chief Technology Office, located in Ashburn, Virginia. Responsibilities Joining Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information and Technology will allow you to use your expertise in Information Technology (IT) principles, concepts and methods to support IT systems and services. This position starts at a salary of $120,579.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $156,755.00 (GS-13, Step 10). In this Information Technology Specialist (Data Management) position you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals. Typical work assignments include: Analyzing data as well as existing and new business requirements to propose data standards, policies, and procedures to support data governance. Developing and facilitating data-gathering methods; Analyzes large datasets to develop strategic insights in order to inform decision making. Analyzing and planning for anticipated changes in data design and capacity requirements and ensures the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of data management services. Rolling out an enterprise-wide data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality and the protection of sensitive data through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, related tools and data architecture. Collaborating with leadership (within OIT and the directorate, and outside organizations within DHS when required) to obtain required resources, information, deadlines, or pertinent decisions established to address or resolve any major work issues that may arise. Qualifications BASIC REQUIREMENT: Applicants must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Along with the four competencies listed above you must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience described below to qualify based on experience. Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Analyzing large and complex data sets to derive strategic insights that inform decision-making. Developing and applying data analysis techniques to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in order to support policy development and program effectiveness. Designing, implementing, and maintaining governance policies and procedures that ensure data quality and integrity, as well as compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to data privacy and security. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and leadership to obtain necessary resources and information, as well as to resolve complex issues related to data management and governance. Facilitating data gathering and coordinating efforts to implement data architecture improvements.
