Job Description
The Department of Management (DOM), Division of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking an Information Technology Specialist 4 - Systems Administrator to join our team.
In this role, you will provide comprehensive IT support for agencies serving sixteen counties in northwest Iowa, overseeing critical systems and infrastructure. This role will work closely with local and remote IT teams to ensure efficient operations and resolve technical issues related to servers, networks, computers, and applications.
Key Responsibilities :
• Lead day-to-day technical support for IT systems and ensure after-hours support as needed.
• Manage the installation, configuration, patching, and backup of servers, both physical and virtual.
• Maintain and document server setups, ensuring proper security and operational standards are met.
• Install, configure, and troubleshoot networking equipment to support site-specific requirements.
• Monitor and resolve network issues, including site ICN circuits and external communication circuits.
• Ensure proper documentation of network designs, configurations, and system interconnectivity.
• Oversee the management and security of computers and peripherals, ensuring they remain operational and properly documented.
• Maintain inventory of IT assets, ensuring all systems are tracked and updated using the ITSM Inventory module.
• Install, maintain, and troubleshoot business-specific applications and desktop productivity suites.
• Use automation and scripting to improve processes, streamline workflows, and create reports.
• Collaborate with business leads to identify and implement IT solutions that enhance operational efficiency.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to junior IT staff and assist with troubleshooting complex issues.
• Work closely with internal teams and external partners to plan, test, and implement IT projects.
• Maintain and update COOP-COG documentation to ensure continuity of operations and resiliency.
• Participate in team meetings and provide status reports to management and site executives. Please note, candidates for this position must reside

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university and experience equal to two years of full-time work: operating a multi-job computer; installing, operating and coordinating computer based networks; installing/maintaining database management systems; developing business application processes; developing/operating system programs; installing/maintaining personal computers, Local Area Networks and/or servers; managing operating systems; developing/ delivering information management training; providing Information Technology (IT) customer service; or designing/administering Internet sites;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the completion of an approved curriculum/specialized training program developed and implemented by or in cooperation with state government; or eighteen semester hours of accredited post high school course work in one of the specialty areas listed above; or certification by an authorized educational institution/major computer or software producer in an area directly related to one of the specialty areas listed above, for the required education;
OR
an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of the required experience for thirty semester hours of the required education;
OR
employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time work as an Information Technology Specialist 3.
