Duties Description ITS provides operational support to state agencies on a 24x7x365 basis; some positions may be required to provide this critical service at any time.

• Manages, develops, directs, and trains GR 23 and GR18 DBAs

• Efficiently manages staff assignments and allocates appropriate resources

• Collaborates with ITS Portfolios and customer Agencies to support projects and applications

• Fosters support of database management standards, guidelines, and best practices

• Proactively identifies problems, anticipates impacts, and proposes solutions

• Utilizes effective communication skills to interface with management, staff, and all levels of the organization

• Creates and maintains programs and scripts for routine or ad-hoc maintenance of servers/databases

• Develops database backup/recovery/disaster recovery standards and procedures; ensures the integrity of backups

• Performs database software installations and upgrades and applies database software patches when necessary

• Creates physical database structures and database objects following established procedures

• Monitors the health and performance of the database environments and takes corrective action when necessary to ensure maximum performance and databases' availability

• Ensures that all NYS established database security protocols are in place

• Maintains appropriate logs and documentation pertaining to database environments

• Participates in on-call rotations to provide 24x7 support and coverage

• Work with database/software vendor(s) to track and monitor licensing and to assist in the diagnose and resolution of technical issues.

• Participates in the research and evaluation of new and emerging database technologies

Minimum Qualifications Open to NYS employees with one year of permanent competitive service as an Information Technology Specialist 4, SG25 OR in a position at the SG23 level or higher deemed administrative under Section 52.6 of Civil Service Law OR in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in advancement of more than two salary grades.

Candidates must be reachable on the current eligible list for this title in order to be list appointed.

Some positions may require up to 25% travel and/or lifting up to 50 lbs. Some positions are pending Civil Service approval. Details of position(s) will be described further if you are selected for an interview.

Positions located in New York City, will receive an additional $3,400 downstate adjustment location pay with regular annual salary. Positions located in the Mid-Hudson will receive an additional $1,650 adjustment location pay.

For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non- competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At this time, agencies may recruit and hire employees by making temporary appointments. In May 2024, if a temporary NY HELPS employee is satisfactorily performing in the position, the appointment will be changed from temporary pending Civil Service Commission Action to permanent non-competitive and the official probationary period will begin.

At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
