Located at Core Lab (Moraine, OH) with Remote flexibilityFull Time Days On Call RotationSummary: The Laboratory Information System (LIS) Application Specialist is responsible for operational aspects of the LIS to ensure that the laboratory goals and objectives are serviced relative to the Information Resources strategies. Supports the LIS from the perspective of the core lab, reference laboratories and electronic medical records. Operates as a scientific systems analyst working with local medical, administrative, laboratory and network resources to maintain, diagnose, fix and improve operation of the LIS. Additionally, the LIS Application Specialist will provide oversight, troubleshooting and resolution of computer related problems and be responsible for oversight of LIS functions. Acts as a representative of the laboratory information system within the organization and with the vendor/s as needed. Candidate will need to be available for technical support during off hours to help share responsibility for operability of our 24/7 environment and identify and utilize the resources needed to support new revision or future development of LIS.
Responsibilities: - Monitors and oversees the performance of the laboratory information system to ensure that is it functioning correctly and meeting the needs of the department;
- Implements all aspects of system requirements, including systems analysis, policy and procedure documentation, test plans, system performance, and user training;
- Monitors automated interfaces, both instrument interfaces and EMR interfaces, to ensure optimum accuracy, appropriate flow of data and timely turnaround of results;
- Evaluates software and makes recommendations regarding software upgrades and new modules;
- Works with clinical staff to identify the functional capabilities of the specialized software applications, investigate causes of system malfunctions, troubleshoots source of errors;
- Ensures the establishment and maintenance of procedures relating to the LIS.
- Ensures departments develop and maintain effective backup/recovery plans for system downtime.
- Implements new modules, interfaces and version upgrades including functionality testing.
- Oversees the ongoing maintenance of test change requests.
- Oversees the creation and development of any management reports necessary to the operation and administration of the labs.
- Works with leadership to develop plans for installations and/or replacements of existing computer software, equipment and peripherals
- Reports on all projects and activities to Executive Team.
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in medical lab sciences
- 2 - 3 years of thorough knowledge of all areas of the Clinical Laboratory.
- Advanced skills in Laboratory Software applications including HL7 information technology, minor troubleshooting of LIS hardware, peripherals and interfaces.
- At least 5 years' LIS experience in a healthcare environment.
- Experience with large, complex healthcare software application implementations' preferred.
- Experience with QLS preferred.
