What you will be doing. As an Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) at Independent Software, you will be responsible for ensuring the secure operation of assigned information systems and supporting continuous monitoring to maintain compliance with cybersecurity standards. You will play a vital role in identifying and mitigating vulnerabilities, enforcing security policies, and ensuring adherence to the DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF). Your work will help safeguard critical mission data and infrastructure by managing security operations, preparing system documentation, and evaluating security controls for effectiveness. Key Responsibilities: Support the development and implementation of cybersecurity programs throughout the system lifecycle Assist in drafting, enforcing, and maintaining system security policies, standards, and methodologies Maintain the operational security posture of information systems to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures Conduct vulnerability and risk assessments to support certification and accreditation activities Provide day-to-day security oversight, including incident response, monitoring, and remediation activities Evaluate, configure, and manage security-related hardware, software, and firmware for compliance and integrity Manage system changes and assess the security impact of updates or modifications Develop and maintain documentation including System Security Plans (SSPs), Risk Assessment Reports (RARs), and other authorization artifacts Support security authorization activities in accordance with NISCAP, NIST SP 800-53, and RMF processes Coordinate with stakeholders to prepare and deliver security reports and compliance documentation Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree with 8+ years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience, or Associate's degree (or 18 semester hours of military IT coursework) with 10+ years of relevant experience, or High school diploma/GED with 12+ years of relevant experience Preferred Fields of Study: Information Assurance, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, IT, Computer Networking, or a closely related field Additional Requirements: Must meet Information Assurance Manager (IAM) Level I requirements within 6 months of assignment Experience with NIST SP 800-53 controls and the DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) Demonstrated expertise in Defense-in-Depth, network security, and enterprise security architecture Strong written and verbal communication skills Clearance Required: Must possess an active TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance to be considered for this role .
