Position Summary:
Responsible for performing professional treatment and prevention of Infectious Disease in adults in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Ensures proper disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery. Consults with patients to determine the appropriate course of treatment.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This is a stand-alone classification which does not fit within a classification series. It is distinguished from Medical Director in that the latter is responsible for managing a clinic/medical unit. The incumbent in this class serves on call 24 hours per day.
Education/Experience:
Graduation from an accredited school of medicine in the area of infectious diseases. Successfully completed a post residency and fellowship in infectious diseases.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid License by State of Nevada to practice medicine and Board Eligible or Board Certified in infectious disease. Must be board certified within three (3) years of hire date. Failure to obtain and/or maintain licensure/certification will result in termination of employment. State of Nevada Pharmacy Board License to Prescribe Medications and DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate. Some positions may require one or more of the following certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Advanced Life Support (ALS) accepted by the American Red Cross; Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of medical care as pertaining to infectious disease in adults, infection control practices and antimicrobial stewardship; federal, state, local and accreditation laws, regulations, standards and trends in the field of medicine; related outside agencies, their services, roles and responsibilities to contact them to appropriate needed information for patient referrals; quality assurance and performance improvement principles and methods; peer review process; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and procedures; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices.
