About the role Simeon Global Consulting is seeking an Individual Assistance (IA) / Housing Specialist to leverage advanced technology, real-time data insights, and operational experience to streamline the delivery of FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) programs and disaster housing solutions.
This position requires an individual who understands the complexities of FEMA IA housing policies, case management, and survivor engagement, ensuring that those impacted by disasters receive the help they need-quickly and efficiently. The ideal candidate will use SGC's innovative methodologies to improve response times, enhance survivor communication, and optimize the distribution of critical housing resources.
What you'll do - Assist disaster survivors in applying for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) housing and financial aid programs, ensuring they receive clear, step-by-step guidance through the application process.
- Use advanced data analytics and technology to streamline case management, tracking survivor needs and accelerating assistance delivery.
- Provide real-time support to local and state agencies on temporary housing solutions (e.g., hoteling programs, mobile units, group sites, and transitional housing strategies).
- Analyze federal policy updates and translate complex IA and housing regulations into actionable steps for clients and survivors.
- Conduct eligibility reviews and validate survivor documentation, ensuring compliance with FEMA regulations (Sections 403, 408, 428 of the Stafford Act).
- Perform field visits and damage assessments, leveraging digital mapping and remote monitoring tools to assess survivor needs efficiently.
- Coordinate with FEMA, HUD, state/local agencies, and nonprofit partners to maximize available resources and streamline recovery efforts.
- Provide trauma-informed case management, ensuring that survivors are treated with dignity, respect, and empathy while receiving assistance.
- Train local emergency response teams and government officials on IA policy and best practices for maximizing assistance efficiency.
- Maintain accurate case records in digital management systems, ensuring transparency and data-driven decision-making.
- Deploy rapidly to disaster-affected areas to provide on-the-ground technical assistance and crisis housing solutions.
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Emergency Management, Social Work, Public Administration, Human Services, or a related field (preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in disaster recovery, emergency management, housing assistance, or case management.
- Strong understanding of FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) programs, including housing assistance, financial aid, and reimbursement policies.
- Proven experience developing and implementing temporary housing solutions for displaced populations post-disaster.
- Ability to interpret and apply federal disaster recovery policies (IAPPG, Stafford Act, National Disaster Recovery Framework).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to adapt quickly in a fast-paced emergency response environment.
- Experience using case management software, GIS tools, and other digital solutions to enhance disaster recovery operations.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a trauma-informed approach to survivor assistance.
- Ability to work under pressure, balancing multiple cases and deadlines in a high-stakes environment.
- Willingness to travel to disaster-affected areas for field deployments and extended emergency response assignments.
