  • Experience advising students in a university context.
  • Experience researching and interpreting complex rules and regulations.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to work in a fast pace and complex environment.
  • Experience with HE software and platforms such as Microsoft Suite and Dynamic Forms.
  • Data management and analytics.

  • Master's degree
  • Experience as a Designated School Official.
  • Experience working with international students.
  • Experience with database management is highly desirable.

  • Evidence of strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, high-volume, environment.
  • Experience working with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Experience with oral presentations desirable.

Job Description:

The Immigration Advisor for the Office of International Student and Scholar Services provides intermediate level advising for students in the F-1 program and serves as a Designated School Official (DSO). Specific position related duties are listed below in terms of immigration processes this position oversees. This position reports to the Senior Immigration Advisor and Supervisor (PDSO).

Job Duties:

  • Provides advising for F1 students currently at TXST on all levels
  • Advises and processes both transfer in and out students
  • Oversees Immigration Check-In Process and the initial registration of the records
  • Ensure all current students are registered into SEVIS
  • Update I-20's including changes in major, address, and program extensions
  • Manages reduced course load requests
  • Processes SSN Letters
  • Manage student withdrawals from the institution
  • Manages concurrently enrolled students
  • Oversees the Dynamic Forms International Affairs database and regularly makes updates, as needed
  • Participate in new student check-in, orientation, special topic workshops, and joint programming with ISSS and other departmental programs
  • Work with International Recruiter to make sure website is up to date about F1 visas and other immigration information
  • Perform other duties as assigned
