About the Opportunity
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) Manager will work under the direction of the Associate Director, Animal Research Protection Program within Research Integrity, and in close collaboration with Animal Care to provide high-level management of the animal care and use program at Brown University and its affiliated hospitals. The IACUC Manager works independently to support the IACUC to ensure institutional compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and institutional policies that govern animal research.
The incumbent will have in depth knowledge of the regulations governing animal research and the ability to interpret and apply the regulations and institutional policy in various situations. They will have experience presenting complex information in a clear and concise manner, including a demonstrated track record of organizing and implementing training and education programs to a broad audience. The IACUC Manager must be a strategic problem-solver with exceptional interpersonal skills and a customer service focus and will be able to work with all levels within the organization, including faculty and senior officials.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree plus 3-5 years animal research compliance experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, PHS Policy on Humane care and Use of Laboratory Animals, USDA AWA and Animal Welfare Regulations, and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).
- Experience developing and/or maintaining computerized databases and tracking systems.
- If not already a Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA), the IACUC Manager will be expected to obtain CPIA certification within 2 years of hire
Job Competencies
- Knowledge and practical application of current federal and State regulations regarding animal research, including The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, PHS Policy on Humane care and Use of Laboratory Animals, USDA AWA and Animal Welfare Regulations, and the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC).
- Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills. Must be detail oriented.
- Initiative and judgment to independently problem solve and prioritize.
- Customer-service focused approach with strong interpersonal skills. Confident public speaker. Highly effective oral and written communication skills necessary.
- Experience working with highly sensitive and/or confidential information.
- Experience with high volumes and rigid deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize workloads.
- Ability to work independently and use judgment and discretion in potentially controversial matters.
- Participation in continuing education and national and/or regional organizations devoted to animal research compliance.
