POSITION SUMMARY:

The Hyperbaric Technician's primary responsibility is to administer hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatments, ready patients for clinician visits, and provide basic patient care under direct supervision of the Charge RN, HBO CHT and onsite provider. The duties include assisting/monitoring patients, administration of oxygen for patient undergoing HBO treatments inside the hyperbaric chamber and/or operating the hyperbaric chamber. The Hyperbaric Technician delivers performs duties and patient care, appropriate to their level of training, competency, and in accordance with standard policies and procedures. Patient care would include obtaining vital signs, placing patients in exam rooms, readying patients for HBO treatment, recording specimen collection, preparing patients for clinician evaluation, assisting clinician, and assisting the HBO - CHT as instructed. Under direction, the Hyperbaric Tech will assist with patient scheduling, referral processing, patient check-in/out processes, and assist with/provide for maintaining the department readiness. The Hyperbaric Tech assists with stocking, organizing, department preparation for the day, room set-up, room cleaning after patient use and performs equipment checks to ensure that it is ready for use. The Hyperbaric Tech will accurately collect and document required demographic, insurance, financial and clinical data elements necessary to register and book patient appointments under close supervision. The Hyperbaric Tech is responsible for the provision of routine patient access activity to facilitate efficient operations, expeditious reimbursement and optimal consumer satisfaction and to promote teamwork. The Hyperbaric Tech is responsible for assisting the CHT in the safe operation of the hyperbaric chamber system, supporting components, maintenance procedures, safety checks and quality control measures. The Hyperbaric Tech utilizes the electronic medical record to document care provided and hyperbaric treatments per protocol and policy. The Hyperbaric Tech supports and contributes to the service excellence mission of Enloe Medical Center and the Wound/Ostomy Services Department.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:

Minimum:

Six months of experience or schooling in a medical-related field

Desired:

One year experience hospital, back office, ambulatory care setting, or other clinic services

experience.

Specific documented training and experience in compression chamber operations or certification

as a Hyperbaric Technologist is desired.

Current CPR Certification

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

Must demonstrate technical competence, professional responsibility and the ability to work as a team member in providing care to the patients being cared for in the Clinic. Must have medical terminology knowledge. Must be able to follow direction. Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients and public. Must demonstrate sensitivity for clinic patients and families. Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment. Proficient computer skills are necessary for a variety of computer functions requiring data entry. Proficient clerical skills are necessary for a variety of support functions. Excellent organizational, problem solving and multi-tasking skills are essential. Must have reliable transportation and be able to safely operate a vehicle. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions, duties and demonstrate skill competencies listed on the OCAT/ACAT for the position.
