Licensure/Certification/Registration Required: RN license active in the state of Missouri Required: BLS must be obtained within 90 days Position Competencies: Competencies are essential skills needed to be successful in a position. Education: Maintains current knowledge of nursing information both in general and specific to the department. Attends all classes as required and seeks out opportunities to learn and grow. Completes all mandatory education in a timely manner. Documentation: Documents patient care as required by hospital policy and department standards in a timely manner. Medication: Administers medication according to the 5 Rights and hospital policy. Educates patients to the action, benefits, and side effects. Monitors for adverse reactions. Develops plan of care that is individualized for the adult or geriatric patient reflecting collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Conducts ongoing assessments as determined by the patient's condition, policy and procedure, or protocols and reprioritizes care accordingly. Safely prepares, administers, and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with policy. Initiates patient education and the discharge plan by teaching patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, signs of complications, contact information and referrals to other healthcare professionals for follow-up treatment.
