Education Required: Graduate of an accredited nursing program or NLN approved program Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Experience Required: At least two years' nursing experience in critical care Preferred: Preceptor and Charge nurse experience Skills Accountable and responsible for own safe clinical practice Basic computer skills and knowledge Excellent customer service skills Thrives in rapidly changing environment Self-motivated Excellent verbal and written communication skills Demonstrate effective leadership abilities Exhibits valuable time management skills Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills. Flexibility and ability to work in a multi-tasking environment. Licensure/Certification/Registration Required: RN license active in the state of Missouri Required: BLS must be obtained within 90 days Required: Must obtain ACLS within one year of hire Position Competencies: Competencies are essential skills needed to be successful in a position. Patient Safety: Situations are analyzed for potential safety concerns and appropriate action is taken to reduce or eliminate risks for potential harm. Exercises good judgment and knows when to seek outside advice when solving problems to prevent unfavorable patient outcomes. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of policies, procedures, code of conduct, safety protocols, and infection prevention standards, and follows them accordingly. Education: Maintains current knowledge of nursing information both in general and specific to the department. Attends all classes as required and seeks out opportunities to learn and grow. Completes all mandatory education in a timely manner. Documentation: Documents patient care as required by hospital policy and department standards in a timely manner. Medication: Administers medication according to the 5 Rights and hospital policy. Educates patients to the action, benefits, and side effects. Monitors for adverse reactions. Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Safely prepares, administers, and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with policy. Prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs. Responds to life threatening situations appropriately by using nursing standards and established protocols for proper treatment. Advocate for patients' and families' needs or provide emotional support for patients and their families. Ensure equipment or devices are working properly, cleaned, and stored after use. Adheres to infection prevention practices and facility safety policies and procedures. Staff members understand that completion of all tasks and educational requirements listed in the Comprehensive Stroke Certification policies are required (HRCOMP & HRCOMP).
