Jackson Hole Classical Academy seeks a Humanities Teacher for Grades 6-12 to teach liberal arts subject areas courses across our classical curriculum, such as Humane Letters, Rhetoric, Logic, Philosophy, Great Books, History of Christianity, or American Civics & Government.

Mission Alignment: Jackson Hole Classical Academy operates in the historic Christian tradition. All faculty, staff, and board members annually reaffirm their commitment to the Nicene Creed . During the initial screening process, applicants are asked to affirm their agreement with the Nicene Creed, before continuing in the application process.


Position Description: The Humanities teacher reports to the Head of School under the guidance of the Academic Leadership Team. The teacher exudes and models a love for God, the world God has made, students, and the subjects he or she teaches, and the teacher feels called to the vocation of nurturing the aesthetic, moral, and intellectual powers of young men and women. The teacher prepares and delivers high-quality instruction of a classical Christian curriculum for the students following classical principles of teaching. The teacher supports a school culture of ordered joy and performs responsibilities with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.


Duties and Responsibilities

Student Mentorship

  • Trains students to exercise and develop their aesthetic, moral, and intellectual faculties, with a view to their growth in wisdom.
  • Serves as a model for students of Christian charity and of the good life.
  • Honors other authorities in the lives of students, including parents, pastors, elders, other teachers, and school administrators; partners with parents in mentoring students.
  • Supports school events and programs to advance student ownership in the school and its culture.
  • Provides regular academic feedback to students and positive coaching on behaviors.
  • Aligns classroom culture with larger school culture and expectations.

Student Learning

  • Loves students and loves the subjects he or she teaches.
  • Possesses a thorough knowledge of the subjects he or she teaches and understands how various subjects integrate into a unity of knowledge.
  • Provides a joyful, respectful, orderly, organized, and academically rigorous learning environment.
  • Prepares and delivers high-quality instruction of classical Christian curriculum for students following classical principles of teaching.
  • Designs course maps and lesson plans and meets all assigned planning requirements.
  • Monitors student learning with assessments and adapts instruction to meet learning needs.
  • Maintains an updated gradebook.
  • Implements individual behavioral or academic intervention plans.
  • Manages classroom behaviors in a positive and effective manner.

School Ambassadorship and Professional Growth

  • Lives according to the school's classical Christian mission in private and serves as ambassador for the school and its mission in public.
  • Regularly communicates student progress and performance to parents in timely fashion.
  • Communicates effectively with students, staff, parents, administration, and the community.
  • Implements school procedures and policies.
  • Serves on committees as assigned.
  • Possesses a growth mindset and is committed to a lifetime of learning.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development opportunities and contributes to the profession of teaching.

Other Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safety and well-being of students by implementing safety protocols and standards in the classroom and at school.
  • Supervises students during instructional periods, transitions, and other assigned times.
  • Provides instruction in the academy's program of cocurricular and extracurricular offerings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Prerequisite Skills

  • Highest standards of professionalism, integrity, sound judgment, confidentiality, and reliability.
  • Strong interpersonal, relational, and communication skills.

Education and Professional Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in area of subject specialization
  • Professional teaching certification or credentialing preferred, not required.
  • Prior teaching experience in private or public classical school or classical home school program strongly preferred.

Other Requirements

  • Pass a background check and meet all state and local requirements for school employment.
  • Physical ability to stand, move, and engage with students actively throughout the day.

Pay varies based on applicant's experience.
