About the Role
We are seeking a passionate 5th Grade Humanities Teacher to lead instruction in both ELA and History. Using the Reading Reconsidered curriculum (ELA) and an evolving history curriculum, this teacher will ensure students build strong literacy, critical thinking, and historical analysis skills. The Humanities Teacher will co-teach and plan alongside the 5th Grade STEM teacher and the 5th Grade Special Education teacher to deliver rigorous, inclusive instruction.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver daily ELA and History lessons grounded in the Reading Reconsidered curriculum and aligned with grade-level standards
- Collaborate closely with STEM and SPED co-teachers to co-plan lessons, adapt materials, and provide targeted student supports
- Reflect daily on student data to personalize instruction and inform upcoming lessons
- Provide small-group and individualized support as needed, particularly for SWD and ENL students
- Establish a classroom culture grounded in RISE: Respect, Integrity, Scholarship, and Effort
- Maintain strong classroom management and uphold schoolwide expectations to ensure a safe and focused learning environment
- Communicate regularly with families, providing updates on student progress and building strong home-school partnerships
- Participate actively in weekly Friday afternoon professional development sessions tailored to staff needs and progress
- Collaborate with colleagues in grade-level teams and professional learning communities to strengthen instructional practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (required); Master's degree (preferred)
- New York State certification in Childhood Education or related field (preferred)
- Prior teaching experience in ELA or History, preferably at the elementary or middle school level
- Deep belief in the ability of all students to achieve at high levels, with the right support
- Strong collaboration, data analysis, and lesson planning skills
- Commitment to continuous growth, feedback, and school mission
