OVERVIEW: Are you a hands-on HR professional looking for an opportunity to make a real impact? Johns Disposal is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to oversee daily HR functions, support employees, and ensure compliance with company policies and employment regulations. This is a key role in fostering a positive work environment and driving HR initiatives that enhance employee experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage day-to-day HR operations, including employee relations, compensation, benefits, and leave administration.
  • Oversee compliance tracking, including mandatory and voluntary training programs, and certifications.
  • Work as a team with the Safety Manager; responsible for various safety training, tracking, and safety-related tasks.
  • Manage employee onboarding, including orientation and recognition programs.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, employee files, and HRIS data management.
  • Support managers and employees with HR-related inquiries, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct or assist with investigations, corrective actions, and terminations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and best practices.
  • Stay informed on HR trends, talent management strategies, and employment law updates.
  • Prepare reports and documentation, including EEO-1, affirmative action plans, and employee handbooks.
  • Manage unemployment claims and employment verifications.
  • Serve as a backup for recruiting and safety-related tasks.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to be assertive and follow process and procedure consistently.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization's HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • At least one year of human resource management experience is preferred.
  • OR
  • Any combination or education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.
  • SHRM-CP is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
