Job Description Summary

The Human Resources Coordinator will support with the implementation and administration of human resource programs, policies, and practices with utmost customer service and professionalism to our prospective and current staff.

Job Description

The Human Resources Coordinator will:

  • Greet internal/external customers and assess any inquiries via phone, email, or in-person to determine the nature of the need or request, secure the appropriate resource, and monitor for follow-up to ensure needs are met.

  • Respond to employee questions and concerns as needed and within purview, using knowledge of HR policies and procedures to help resolve employee concerns and questions.

  • Manage new employee processing once new employee has arrived for their appointment: gathering all requisite paperwork in a timely manner, working in collaboration with Talent Acquisition to ensure the new employee is hired in Workday, and managing appropriate coordination with Employee Health.

  • Be responsible for all day to day activities related to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab uniforms. This will include ordering, distribution of uniforms to new hires and existing employees, addressing employee uniform questions and issues, managing uniform inventory, projections and budgeting for each year and organizing the uniform storage area.

  • Meet with employees to provide uniform fittings, and perform administrative tasks and data entry to track all uniform orders.

  • Maintain records for new hire orientation, HRIS and Human Resources compliance.

  • Assist all areas of HR regarding programs, special initiatives, recruiting, benefits, and administration and employee relations.

  • Manage employee personnel files.

  • Be responsible for various administrative tasks such as composing internal directory, office supplies, invoices, and scheduling.

  • Participate in HR related projects and initiatives as needed.

  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

Reporting Relationships

  • Reports directly to the Executive Director, People Development

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  • Education level appropriate with what is normally gained through the acquisition of a bachelor's degree in human resources or business.

  • Ability to recommend and advocate for appropriate human resource decisions with internal and external clients.

  • Able to promote an appreciation of, and sensitivity to, the diversity of individuals involved in situations and how that diversity may affect behavior.

  • Demonstrates effective time management skills, meeting deadlines while managing multiple priorities.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of when to escalate and/or seek advice when appropriate.

  • Demonstrates good judgment in identifying situations requiring negotiations and problem solving.

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, active listening and persuasive negotiation skills and diplomacy with all levels of an organization.

  • Must possess excellent analytical and planning skills.

  • Demonstrates group cohesiveness and collaborates well with others.

  • Required to lift, carry, & move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • 35 - 50 pound lifting requirement-occasionally

  • 20 - 34 pound - frequently

  • 0-19 pound - frequently.

  • Ability to push/pull carts, shelving units and clothes racks. Ability to reach above shoulders and bend to access different level storage shelving. Standing and walking up to 3 hours and sitting up to 4 hours. Frequent bending and occasional squatting required.

Working Conditions

  • This is an on-site position at 355 E Erie St, Chicago, IL 60611, Monday - Friday.

  • Environment varies from normal office environment to uniform storage area.

  • The uniform storage may have moderate temperature variations with exposure to dust and confined work spaces.

Pay and Benefits :

Pay Range: $19.56 hourly - $33.43 hourly
