Overview HEALTH, SAFTEY & ENVIORNMENTAL SPECIALIST (SPVA) UIC Government Services and the Bowhead family of companies are seeking a Health, Safety & Environmental Specialist (HSE Specialist) in our Springfield, VA office. The HSE Specialist will be responsible for working with other team members and operations staff on training, inspections, regulatory compliance topics as a member of the corporate Support Services staff. Responsibilities Be able to interact with appropriate Military and civilian command personnel, contractors and support personnel as well as perform other duties as assigned. Have a good working knowledge of OSHA regulations, systems, programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines. Provide administrative, industrial, maintenance, logistical and technical labor support services to sustain and enhance various Government client contract requirements for various functional divisions under multiple Directorates around the country. Divisions include but not limited to Production Engineering, Industrial Business, Electronic Support, Manufacturing and Fabrication, Mechanical Equipment, Supply, Transportation, Maintenance, Marine, Aviation across a wide range of military weapons and support systems. The general work environment varies and includes but is not limited to; office space, equipment rooms, warehouse space, construction zones, field conditions and other environments. Additional Environments: The environment includes work on a variety of client sites. Potential hazards include: limited or dimmed lighting, respiratory hazards, flammable & combustible environments, heat and cold stress, hazardous chemical substances, confined space locations, noise, static electricity, & adverse weather conditions. In addition to hazards identified above, job hazard analysis may be required prior to work in some locations, for the purpose of environmental hazards identification. Qualifications BA/BS degree with at least 1 year of HSE experience or AA degree with 5 years of experience. Must have a good working knowledge of Client and OSHA regulations, systems, programs, policies, nomenclature, work methods, manuals, or other established guidelines.
Must be able to obtain a Security Clearance and have the clearance eligibility to access military installations.
Must have an in-depth knowledge of general computer functions; internet software; spreadsheet and database software, word processing software and MS Office Suite.
Must be able to coordinate and complete training across multiple work shifts to ensure compliance.
Must have the ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals (if requested). Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general workforce.
Must possess a strong desire to provide excellent customer service solutions and communication skills to interact with coworkers and clients in a courteous and professional manner.
Have basic knowledge of the following subject matter areas: Substance Abuse testing and procedures, Workers Compensation claims handling, HAZCOM, HAZWOPER and HAZMAT regulations, EM 385-1-1 (USACE Regulations), NFPA 70E, Recordkeeping. Possess an OSHA 30 card or have OSHA Outreach Trainer experience Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
