Position Overview

The incumbent assists in the direction, development, implementation, and administration of various Human Resources programs, initiatives, and administrative processes, with a focus on recruitment/staffing, onboarding/orientation, and employee relations. The incumbent also ensures compliance with Title IX, VAWA, various risk management and safety programs, and other associated legislation/regulations on behalf of the College.

Essential Functions

EMPLOYMENT/STAFFING
  • Responsible for maintaining an up-to-date inventory of staff position descriptions. Communicates & coordinates with managers and employees when job descriptions must be revised. Uses ADP Document Cloud to post job descriptions for each employee to acknowledge.
  • Leads the recruiting effort for staff positions including position approval through the ADP requisition process, internal posting, external recruiting, resume screening, background checks, reference checks, and other pre-employment needs; assists hiring managers and participates in the interview process as necessary.
  • Ensures job offers are made in a timely manner to meet the hiring department's operational needs. Ensures that new hire offers are competitive, consistent with SCO's compensation guidelines, and internally equitable.
  • Conducts and coordinates the new hire onboarding process, including new hire paperwork, securing employee ID, and completion and distribution of new hire announcement.
  • Schedules and conducts new hire orientation process; maintains an engaging orientation program.
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
  • Serves as the primary staff contact for employee complaints. Conducts official College investigations.
  • Keeps abreast of employee relations issues and develops solutions to resolve employee concerns.
  • Implements solutions once approved by the Human Resources Leader.
HR GENERALIST DUTIES
  • Coordinates various employee activities, including Campus-wide meetings and introductory new hire meetings with the President.
  • Coordinates the milestone anniversary and retirement gift program using the College's selected vendor.
  • Assists with the handling of daily activities/operations of the HR department such as invoice receipt and budget compliance.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
RISK MANAGEMENT
  • Coordinates risk management initiatives to include OSHA and EPA compliance, including annual OSHA/EPA compliance training for faculty and staff.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains safety procedures and programs necessary to improve the safety program's effectiveness.
TITLE IX COORDINATOR
  • Acts as Title IX coordinator and ensures that the College complies with regulations and requirements related to Title IX, VAWA, and other related legislation.
  • In concert with other departments (Student Services, Academic Affairs), develop written policies, procedures, and processes that support compliance with Title IX, VAWA, and related legislation.
  • Ensures that complaints/violations are investigated and resolved within the appropriate timeframe as required. May make recommendations regarding necessary changes to ensure that the College maintains an environment that fosters non-discriminatory actions, and is free from harassment.
Job Specifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree in HR or a related field or equivalent years of relevant work experience is required; a Master's degree in HR or a related field is preferred.

Experience: 5-7 years of Human Resources experience in an exempt generalist role.

Special Skills/ Certifications: SHRM-CP or PHR is preferred.
