Position Summary
The Housing and Consumer Law Paralegal is to ensure efficient delivery of client services and harmonious maintenance of internal operations within the Housing and Consumer Law Unit. The paralegal works under the direct supervision of the unit supervising attorney and the other unit attorneys. The paralegal assists the attorneys and takes primary responsibility for case files. They should be capable of acting with substantial degrees of independence and responsibility in this professional capacity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Summarize legal documents.
- Coordinate and perform legal research.
- Check legal forms for accuracy.
- Prepare reports.
- Prepare correspondence.
- Draft legal documents.
- Interview clients to gather information.
- Deliver and file documents as needed.
- Assist with outreach.
- Where permissible, a paralegal may represent clients at administrative hearings and work with the supervising attorney for preparation of an appeal.
- Other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Preference for applicants who are fully fluent in English and Spanish.
- Demonstrated capacity to exhibit sensitivity to clients.
- Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute and successfully pass a secretarial skill test.
- Knowledge of basic professional letter formatting.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to interact with community members in a professional, efficient, and compassionate manner.
Education & Experience
- Five years of experience in office administration or management.
- Associate degree or higher or a Paralegal Studies certificate.
