Job Description:

This position has been allocated for a BC/BE nurse practitioner or physician assistant.
We are expanding our hospitalist team of physicians and advanced practice providers committed to clinical quality improvement and ensuring patients receive the highest quality care at an affordable cost. This is an opportunity to work part time at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, UT and Layton Hospital. Shifts will include 3 10-hour day shifts per pay period. Some weekends and holidays will be required but will rotate throughout the larger provider group.

The Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a critical role in the comprehensive care of patients within a hospital setting. This position requires a strong clinical background with primary focus on patients on general medicine floors, working collaboratively with attending physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to adult patients, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered outcomes.

Physical Requirements:

Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are accountable for the provision of patient care at the top of licensure, within their scope of practice. Licensed, credentialed and privileged to perform such duties as:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments, including history and physical examinations, review of labs, vitals and medication reconciliations.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians.
  • Manage acute and chronic medical conditions, including initiating appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists, to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in daily medicine rounds, providing input on patient management and care plans.
  • Facilitate communication between patients, families, and healthcare teams, ensuring that patients and their families are informed and involved in care decisions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, treatment plans, and progress notes in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulatory requirements, and best practice standards.
  • Provide education and support to patients, families, and healthcare staff regarding disease processes, treatment plans, and care transitions.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuing education to stay current with advancements in critical care and internal medicine.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives within the hospitalist program and hospital.
  • Participate in hospital committees, task forces, and meetings as required.
Qualifications:
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN, DNP) or Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) in Utah
  • Board certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP), Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AG-ACNP), or Physician Assistant (PA-C).
  • Prior experience in a hospital or critical care setting is highly desirable.
  • Strong clinical decision-making and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in a hospital environment, which may involve exposure to infectious diseases and high-stress situations.
  • Requires standing, walking, and the ability to perform physically demanding procedures.
