  • Job Summary:
The Lorain Hospice Volunteer will provide compassionate support to patients and their families facing life-limiting illnesses. Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for hospice patients by offering companionship, emotional support, and practical assistance. This position is ideal for individuals who are empathetic, reliable, and dedicated to making a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Companionship: Spend time with patients, engaging in meaningful conversations, reading, playing games, or simply offering a comforting presence.
  • Family Support: Assist families by providing respite care, enabling caregivers to take breaks, and offering emotional support during difficult times.
  • Administrative Support: Help with light office tasks such as filing, organizing materials, or assisting with mailings, as needed.
  • Special Projects: Participate in community outreach events or fundraising activities to help raise awareness and support for hospice care.
  • Training and Development: Attend orientation and ongoing training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge related to hospice care and volunteer activities.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain patient and family confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and organizational policies.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the hospice care team, including nurses, social workers, and chaplains, to ensure comprehensive support for patients and families.
  • Qualifications:
  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • A compassionate and empathetic demeanor; experience in healthcare or caregiving is a plus, but not required.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to commit to a regular volunteer schedule, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Willingness to undergo background checks and health screenings as required by the organization.
  • Training will be provided; however, a willingness to learn is essential.
