Are you looking for a meaningful way to make a difference in the lives of others? We are seeking compassionate and caring individuals to join our volunteer team at Bristol Hospice Dallas.

As a hospice companion volunteer, you will provide comfort, emotional and compassionate support and presence to patients and their families/caregivers during this difficult time. Your role will involve spending time with patients, offering companionship through conversation, reading aloud, playing music, or simply offering a listening ear. While you won't provide medical or personal care, your presence will help alleviate loneliness and bring a sense of comfort to both the patient and their families/caregivers.

Responsibilities Include:

  1. Participates in general orientation and training
  2. Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy
  3. Serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary group amid various settings: patient homes, facilities, and inpatient units
  4. Serves the patient and family/caregiver under guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator
  5. Serves as additional support for patient/family in patient's home. In addition to companionship, the volunteer may do light housekeeping tasks, run errands, and provide respite care within the scope of their volunteer training, organization policies, and at the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator
  6. Performs documentation of patient visits/volunteer activities according to training and turns in documentation in timely manner as instructed by Volunteer Coordinator
  7. Participates in volunteer support groups and/or educational in-services
  8. Maintains open communication and reports regularly to the Volunteer Coordinator regarding availability and completion of assigned duties
Requirements Include:

  1. Must be at least 18 years or older to visit patients (If under 18 years old, you must volunteer with a parent/guardian who has completed the onboarding process)
  2. Background Checks (Initially and Annually)
  3. Reference Checks
  4. TB testing (Initially and Annually)
  5. Completion of all orientation paperwork and online training
Qualifications:

  1. No prior experience in healthcare or hospice care is required
  2. A caring, patient, and empathetic nature
  3. Ability to communicate effectively and respect confidentiality
  4. Minimum commitment of 1-2 hours per week/bi-weekly/monthly (if visiting with patients)
