Job Summary:
The Histology Lab Supervisor is responsible for oversight and management of daily activities in the embedding, sectioning, and scanning workstations of the histology section at the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (OADDL). This position will assist the histology lab manager in the training and supervision of three senior laboratory technicians and 1-3 temporary or student workers.
The Lab Supervisor will work closely with the histology lab manager to operate the processing and embedding stations, oversee five sectioning stations, and coordinate the scanning of stained slides to assure timely delivery of cases to pathologists. Duties will also include quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) of all slides produced in the Lab. Other responsibilities will include assisting in staff training and completing research cases.
Occasional unpleasant odors from animal tissues and diagnostic specimens. Ability to operate in fast-paced, high-throughput environment with repetitive grossing and sectioning tasks. Occasional holiday and weekend work. Handling of chemicals, handling of animal tissues, biological/zoonotic agents (including but not limited to viral and bacterial, fungal, and protozoal organisms), and use of electrical equipment. Rabies immunization is required and will be provided. Repetitive grossing and sectioning tasks. (manual repetitive wrist rotation, etc.)

Required Qualifications:
Vocational/Technical degree and two years of lab experience OR High School/GED and four years experience.
Rabies immunization is required and will be provided. Working knowledge and proficiency in histology techniques; specifically grossing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. Excellent communication skills, organizational skills, and proficiency in general use of laboratory equipment are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in biology or related field and three years of lab experience in molecular diagnostic laboratory, veterinary diagnostic laboratory, or research laboratory setting.
