Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


We have an opening for a Highway Design Engineer working out of our Buffalo, Rochester or Syracuse office.


What you'll be able to do:


  • Feasibility studies, design calculations, specifications, 3D modeling, plan development, construction cost estimates, and support of work/environmental permitting applications.
  • Participate in field condition inspections, safety assessments, and produce appropriate technical reports of findings.
  • Provide construction administration support for Requests for Information (RFI's) and submittals. Special inspection field visits when required.
  • Represent Prudent Engineering at project meetings, as needed.

The minimum requirements we seek:


  • BS Civil Engineering preferred (AAS Civil Tech minimum) with 5+ years' experience in highway design
  • EIT preferred
  • Experience with Civil/Site and ancillary design (e.g., closed drainage, water service, sanitary sewer, stormwater management practices, etc.)
  • Proficient with: Autodesk Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office Excel/Word
  • Bentley MicroStation V8i or Connect Edition a plus
  • Additional experience with any of the following would be a plus: hydraulics (HEC-RAS), GIS, bank stabilization, emergency action plans, fish passage, and water control structure operations
  • Ability to work primarily independent on project assignments, with support from more experienced engineers
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
