The After School Athletics Coach is responsible for facilitating and coordinating activities related to the assigned athletic sport. The After School Athletics Coach is also responsible for coaching, managing and enforcing safety protocols for students participating in the sport. The After School Athletics Coach is also responsible for the supervision and evaluation of all students within his/her assignment, is committed to the Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustee's policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Athletic Director or his/her designee.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience coaching in a similar sport strongly preferred.
  • Must possess teaching and coaching techniques appropriate to the sport assigned.
  • First Aid, CPR, AED and Concussion training required.
  • Possession of valid Driver's License, if transporting students.
  • Must be available to attend activities, practices, games, and meetings outside of school hours as necessary.
  • Must be dependable and reliable.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to relate well to others.

SUPERVISION: None

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, After School Athletics Coach will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administrator may also assign other tasks he/she deems appropriate.
  • Maintains current First-Aid, CPR, and Concussion training, if required by the particular sport, or based on availability of coaches at the activity site;
  • Keeps up to date with any necessary training for assigned sport;
  • Attends regular coach meetings organized by the After School Athletics Coordinator or Athletic Director at Atlantis to discuss student eligibility, practice schedules, practice locations, documentation, equipment needs, and any general concerns or questions;
  • Creates an environment where students are supported and encouraged to participate in the athletics program;
  • Adheres to practice schedules, student practice rules and medical compliance as required by the league;
  • Strictly upholds and enforces standards and rules of athletic program, especially safety rules and standards;
  • Sets appropriate boundaries for students based on school rules;
  • Models positive behavior and fair play students;
  • Instructs students in the proper use of equipment and sets up equipment for practice and games;
  • Notifies After School Activity Coordinator or Athletic Director in a timely manner of any misuse of athletic equipment and need for any replacement equipment;
  • Trains students in the basic skills necessary for the assigned sport;
  • Recruits parent and/or staff volunteers to assist as needed;
  • Completes all necessary documentation for students to participate in the Athletics program and ensures all documentation is submitted to the After School Athletics Coordinator or Athletic Director by deadlines;
  • Assists, as needed, in planning and executing an awards party for students at the end of the school year;
  • Attends all necessary meetings at Atlantis relating to the Athletics Program;
  • Keeps After School Athletic Coordinator and Athletic Director up to date on games, practices, and issues or concerns related to assigned sport;
  • Maintains records of student athlete attendance for practices and games, and equipment and uniform assignments and returns.
